A venture from acclaimed restaurateur Matthew Norman, POLPO at Ape & Bird brings refined Venetian cuisine to a stunningly restored London pub. Weathered wood, a stool-lined bar and shelves packed with rare wines are found in the dining room.

Reminiscent of Venice’s charming backstreet restaurants, POLPO specialises in Italian small plates and signature spritzers. Hand-rolled meatballs, freshly-stretched pizzettes and colourful salads head up the POLPO menu, and favourite creations include cuttlefish & squid ink risotto with gremolata, or pork jelly with apricot and sage. For dessert, culinary innovations include Campari panna cotta, or ricotta doughnuts with cinnamon sugar.

POLPO near Leicester Square also serves an artisan brunch menu, with breakfast cocktails, pastries and fresh juices served alongside dishes like nutritious scafata with poached eggs, and sourdough with wild garlic, mushrooms and ricotta. Accompanying a selective wine list is a list of classic POLPO cocktails.

Offering laidback Italian dining in the bustling West End, this POLPO in London 3 minutes’ walk from Leicester Square Tube Station.

Polio at Ape & Bird is a fantastic restaurant. The food is all small plates, so you have 2-3 plates per person, and the food can be shared. The quality of the food was excellent. We had the best Frito Misto we have had outside of Italy - it's normally too heavy in this country, put it was perfectly light here. We also had chickpea and spinach "meat" balls which were delicious. The pea and mint salad was refreshing, and the octopus carpaccio was also delicious.
The service was very helpful and friendly. Our waiters knew when to help and when to leave us alone.
We had a lovely time at Polpo, and will definitely return. It should also be mentioned that this restaurant is extremly convenient for the Harry Potter play, as it is just across the road from the theatre.

Very good ambiance and food, perfect for a working lunch. Could benefit from offering WiFi, I was 30 minutes early and wanted to work while waiting for my client, but WiFi was not available. A bit strange since so much of their website refers to how many business people are here during the day.

My party really loved the food - Polpo is always, always delicious. But the service wasn't brilliant. I know the plates come at different times but the kitchen only sent out one spinach, parmesan and egg pizzette when we'd ordered two - it transpired they'd totally forgotten about it - and didn't send out the rosemary potatoes we'd ordered either. We ended up having all of our vegetables and meatballs and being given the final pizzette and potatoes a good half an hour after everything else had been given to us and about an hour after our first plates arrived. We also had to ask for water several times, and when we asked for the bill we were left waiting for 10-15 minutes and had to chase before we were able to pay. The reason we chose Polpo was because we needed to be in and out quickly, but that wasn't the case at all in the end. It hasn't put me off Polpo in general, but I'd hesitate before going back to this branch.

Food was amazing. Service was a bit slow getting started, but good once they got into gear.

Loved it ! I brought 7 clients with me on a work lunch. The staff were lovely and the food overall was great! There was a little bit of a weight for some of our dishes to come out and there could have been a bit more duck on the duck salad. But overall we had a great time.
