A beautiful and luxurious place to dine with friends and family. Located on the outskirts of Manchester and nestled on the edge of the countryside, Pointing Dog is the place to come for special occasions and everyday drinks and food. Enjoy field to pot cooking with seasonal harvests from the surrounding countryside offset by the urban influence of the city.

Succulent 30-day-aged steaks are sourced from one of the North’s finest butchers and are served with the finest of accompaniments. Dine in private rooms or in the restaurant on classic Pointing Dog delights including beer-battered haddock with pea crush and chip shop chips, or braised beef cottage pie with root veg and parmesan-crusted mash. Enjoy the Pointing Dog’s signature baked Alaska, chocolate cake in a jar, or Prosecco sorbet.

A cosy bar with a rustic caged wine stock is offset by the beams of the high ceilings of the dining room. Pointing Dog makes sure that guests are cosy with a crackling wintry wood burners and stone hearths. Drop into the Pointing Dog in Cheadle for morning coffee, afternoon tea, cocktail sipping and luxurious wine quaffing.

A cornerstone of the community, Pointing Dog restaurant is found 6 minutes’ drive from central Cheadle Hulme.

Good, but no-one offered to take our coats and they subsequently constantly fell off the curved wicker seats. Also our table was in a spot with no lighting and we couldn't see the menus. We had to put phone flashlights on to read - very silly as the menus are printed in a very light and small font anyway! That was a major nuisance and didnt start the experience well at all. Staff, service, food, timing and decor all very good. The PD needs to balance ambient lighting with adequate lighting and it would have been a far better night out. I thought the wine was way overpriced (Manchester/London inner city prices in what's essentially a lonely restaurant on a side road) and wouldn't recommend it on this point at all.
Improve the lighting, seating or coat-hanging situation and provide a more reasonable and affordable wine list and it'll be the perfect night out. I don't hang my good coats in my kitchen or dining room at home and don't expect to do it when I go out. I also don't expect to come again unfortunately, I can get just as good food and service closer to home with better and cheaper wine where they also take my coat away from food smell and floor damage and I can read the menu without a torch!
