Boasting 2 AA Rosettes, Park House Cardiff is a restaurant and wine bar with a modern British menu. The contemporary creativity of the food contrasts with the grand Victorian property in which the restaurant is housed.

The Park House menu focuses on using local Welsh ingredients to produce creative, British-influenced dishes. Start with parsnip and coco bean salad with pickled chanterelles and hazelnuts, or the rich chicken velouté with brioche and cep butter. Main dishes include the sumptuous venison with juniper berries, sweet and sour parsnips, foie gras caramel and roast pear, or the grouse with curly kale, game crouton and parsnip purée. Fresh fish dishes are also on offer, like Cornish turbot with Wiltshire truffle risotto, wild mushroom and truffle broth, and Parisienne vegetables.

Park House restaurant also serves a lavish afternoon tea of speciality sandwiches, hand-made cakes and pastries, and freshly baked scones. Added glamour can be added by choosing one of the champagne or cocktail afternoon tea options. An extensive wine, whisky and cocktail list complements any meal at Park House.

Close to the iconic castle, Park House is an 8-minute walk from Cardiff Queen Street Train Station.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience (seven course tasting menu) Particular highlights were the sea bass and grouse courses with paired wines, although Lucky Lizard was very good too (and I was glad to know about this as I am not usually a chardonnay fan). Staff were very informative, very pleasant and surroundings excellent. Music in the restaurant was great, but personally, we didn't like the music in the upstairs bar.

Disappointed with the experience - food was okay, not great, and waiters were a bit pompous - wouldn't revisit

We were very impressed from the moment we entered until the time we left. The receptionist was polite and friendly, the waiting staff were attentive and very knowledgeable. It really is a wine lovers who like to dine restaurant.
The wine list needs hours of study unfortunately beautiful food kept appearing.
All in all worth every penny. If we have to be critical then the amuse buche was not particularly appetising and let down the three courses to follow.

Elegant venue, delicious food and excellent service.

Expensive. Sauce required with the fish undercooked parsnip. Some sauce with the starter would have helped

    No ambience

Loved the dark and elegant look of the restaurant... fitting.

Wine service was excellent.. although I felt like the wine list at 100+ pages was ridiculous..the excellent service of the sommelier saved the evening and made some recommendations that I never would have selected but were perfectly paired with the dishes we selected .

Good was also spot on..fresh, delicious and delivering a high level sophistication.

    While impressive at first,
I felt like the atmosphere was more formal than I normally dine in and wished it could be a little more loose and modern as the evening went along...but I think the older full service white table cloth dining style and the hushed tone of the dining room appealed to the other diners we saw...the downside of the antique atmosphere for us but part of the charm if that's your intent.

Second time we have visited this resturant. We booked a Prosecco deal which was an option on Bookatable, was very disappointed to be told on arrival the option was no longer available and was offered the champagne deal which was slightly more expensive and 2 courses rather than the 3 on the Prosecco deal. Our waiter Alex was fantastic though and ensured we enjoyed the meal despite our disappointment, thank you Alex. Food was lovely, there was a wedding at the same time as our meal which was a little disrupting at first due to noises wooden floor boards but soon quitened down.

Disappointing. We have eaten once before here - we sampled the tasting menu, with matching wines - the experience was exceptional. Really not sure what's going on with this restaurant but something has gone wrong. We were informed that the sommelier had called in sick, which was unfortunate, as the poor chap left to take wine orders didn't know the difference between a sweet, medium or dry white wine... The starters were of good quality, if a little stingy on the quantity side. The mains were surprising, for the wrong reasons - bland & overcooked. The bar was closed & we were curtained off from the rest of the restaurant, with only 3 tables occupied (on a Saturday evening); one table left without ordering any food & the other table disclosed that they too were disappointed with their dining experience. We had booked the taster menu for my birthday - we were told instead that they were trialing their new menu that evening - although not everything on said menu was available. We asked for the bill after the mains, feeling somewhat deflated. We shall not be returning.
