Dating back to the 16th century, Pant-yr-Ochain is a beautiful country gastro pub from award-winning pub group, Brunning & Price. Recommended in numerous pub guides and named as the Good Pub Guide County Dining Pub of the Year 2006, it sits in the picturesque village of Gresford.

Eclectic flavours on the Pant-yr-Ochain menu are showcased in dishes like the pan-fried baby squid with king prawn and chorizo salad, and a crispy beef salad with bok choi, pineapple and mango, peanut and chilli dressing. Hearty fish pie incorporates salmon, smoked haddock and prawns, while tender braised shoulder of lamb is accompanied by dauphinoise potatoes, tender stem broccoli, carrot puree and mint gravy.

The Pant-yr-Ochain pub in Wrexham is a grand Tudor manor setting, whose picture-perfect manicured grounds house a tranquil al fresco dining area. Sophisticated chocolate and cognac tart is among delectable desserts, while wines are considered picks from France and the New World.

A 5-minute drive from Wrexham General Station, Pant-yr-Ochain has its own miniature railway for kids.

Our party of 3 visited the Pant on 21 April and it was clean plates all round - fab food and real ale (says my husband). The staff were lovely and personable.

Booked for our anniversary, starters were nice but for the main course I ordered the lamb which on arrival looked a little dry the first couple of mouthfuls were not to bad but the rest was very dry I did not think it was fresh cooked. My husband had the fish and chips and asked for tarter sauce and was assured the sauce on the plate was tartar sauce but it was not it was mayonnaise, we did mention to the waiter when he collected the plates that the lamb was dry and he looked at it and agreed it did look rather dry. I should have done more but as it was a special occasion I did not want to cause a fuss. When I ordered a desert they did not charge for it as a gesture

First a foremost we love eating at The Pant-or Orchain, and we are usually very satisfied with service ,and the food is excellent, but unfortunately our dining experience last night was very disappointing.....we waited a very long time, but it was Easter Friday so we took that into consideration, but when the food arrived all the chips were not cooked properly the meals were taken back and reserved , but all the 3 steak meal were over cook, steak was tough.....which is not exceptable , price is not an issue as we really don't mind what the meal cost as long as it is good! we were not charged for these meals , but have come away feeling very disappointed.
This will not stop us from returning ,as we have been going to this beautiful coaching inn for 14 years....

A lovely meal, attentive waitress, warm friendly atmosphere. Chocolate cheesecake ganache with rasberry sorbet particularly delicious!

Disappointingly the food was mediocre on this visit. Usually food is excellent. Starter was not nice at all. Pork belly squares had not been slow cooked so all the fat had not rendered out so very very chewey and not pleasent. Steak sandwich was completely tasteless. Ice cream was lovely but that was down to Cheshire farms. ????

We ordered only a main for four adults and three children's meals and had to wait an hour and a half. The excuse we were given for the delay was because one the one fillet steak ordered was to be well done that was what caused the delay! No one bothered to come and ask if perhaps we wanted the children's meals offered earlier under the circumstances and as a result the children were quite fed up by the time our meals arrived. Overall not a very enjoyable experience all the adults were having steaks and two of us asked for fresh salads. These were placed next to our steaming hot chips!

Consistently good food and sufficiently attentive waiting staff. Always plenty of choice - veggie, exotic and traditional.
