Charming. Good food. Very fresh and well prepared. Friendly service and the pre theatre special is a very good value.

Nestled in a converted orchid warehouse, Orso – Covent Garden presents a chic, bistro-style retreat. With sleek wood furnishings and pale terracotta walls, the dining room evokes the charm of 1950s Milan.

With a long established reputation for superb Italian cuisine in Covent Garden, the Orso menu offers lovingly-crafted, traditional cuisine, whilst incorporating an exciting twist. Quality, regionally-sourced ingredients are used to create tempting dishes, like roast Tuscan sausage with braised black cabbage, or fresh penne pasta with wilted spinach and gorgonzola.

Within a vibrant area of London, Orso restaurant offers a comfortable atmosphere which is perfect for a leisurely meal, and diners can unwind with a glass from the fine range of well-balanced wines. To round things off, the dessert menu is filled with indulgent delights, like flourless chocolate cake with mascarpone, or pear and caramel tart.

In a quaint setting, Orso Covent Garden is just 6 minutes’ walk from Covent Garden Tube Station, and 2 minutes from the Lyceum Theatre.

We had the early dinner menu and it was excellent value for money and really tasty. It was rather like eating the wonderful Italian food of the 1960s. The service was super swift- good for theatre goers or anyone needing a quick meal.

When we arrived about 6:00p.m, the restaurant was about half full. We were seated in a far corner next to the wall which proved to be a huge mistake. Despite making the various staff aware on arrival that we had a tight schedule due to theatre, we were ignored.

Truly out of sight, out of mind.

We were certainly an after thought for the various servers who had been carefully coached into how to scan a room without making eye contact whilst staring into the middle distance. We finally received our Starters, finished them, pushed the plates to the side and then spent the next 10-15 minutes trying to get someone's attention. We reminded them that we needed to keep this meal moving along and eventually the Mains appeared.

My date literally had to leave as once the Mains were served, we were never to see anyone again. Remember, this place was only half full. Finally, I caught the eye of a passing waiter from another section and requested the bill - which he brought... and promptly vanished despite the fact that I was handing him my credit card in order to pay and get the heck out of this place.

Now I was, again, cooling my heels with no one making the slightest effort to take care of the payment. Finally, I stood up, put on my coat and started to move towards the door (as were the people next to me who had suffered a similar lack of service)... which prompted one of the staff to arrive and take payment.

So, if you want to go somewhere with average food, where no one will ever bother you and you have a lot of time on your hands, this is the perfect place for you.

We will, likely, not return unless we can get seated where the poorly trained staff have to walk by our table once in awhile if for no other reason than to go across the room to chat with an other member of staff.

Lovely Italian restaurant. We had the pre-theatre menu and a kids meal, both had a nice choice and were good value. Close to Covent Garden and the Strand so great location for many theatres in the area. We weren't rushed and waiter appeared when needed, very polite and friendly staff.

The food used to be better, we had the risotto and the tortellini and non of the dishes was anything special. We thought the risotto was normal rice with vegetables inside and it took 30 min to get desert and we have asked if 1 desert contained alcohol and they only let us know that it did when the the other deserts came and at that point it was to late to order a second one.

This place used to be fantastic, I will not be going back after yesterday.

Very fast service, delicious foo. Can't fault it for a pretty theatre dinner. Arrived at 5 and we're at the palace theatre for 18:20 and didn't feel rushed at all.
