An ultra-modern hideaway on Festival Square, One Square showcases modern British cuisine and forward-thinking design. A canopy-sheltered terrace overlooks Edinburgh landmarks, while floor-to-ceiling windows frame panoramic views beyond.

Wholesome, seasonal offerings on the One Square menu mix classically comforting recipes and creative signature dishes. Savour herb-crusted Pollock with duck fat potatoes or venison wellington with red cabbage and wild mushrooms, and a warming apple charlotte with cider & caramel ice cream for dessert.

A member of the elite Tea Guild, traditional afternoon teas are weaved with exciting twists, like zingy raspberry & lychee macarons, orange and angelica scones from the in-house bakery, or a bespoke gin cocktail – of which over 40 varieties are found at the bar. Deliciously fresh continental and Scottish breakfasts are also offered at One Square restaurant.

A modern take on the classic grand cafe, One Square is a fashionable restaurant in Edinburgh. The metropolitan bustle of Princes Street is 5 minutes’ walk away.

The staff were very friendly and seemed nice, but I have to say that we were terribly disappointed. In the past, we have always loved it, but the whole ambience has changed and the choices of main courses were few. The vegetables were overcooked, undercooked and cold. The beef was red raw and we could not look at it. The puddings looked as if they had been around for a while and the cheese was hard and a bit fousty. I nearly died when I was charged £71.00 for a glorified carvery meal. Also, not to be warned about the 10 per cent service charge. A total rip off. Will not be going back ......

As always - choice and quality of food was excellent. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient.

We were going to a concert at the Usher Hall so required a fairly quick and straightforward meal. The menu gave an extensive list of starters and mains.

What my wife and I had was tasty and served promptly along with an excellent Pinot Grigio.

We always like going to One Square because of the excellent view of the Castle and the Usher Hall, together with the friendly staff.

The only slight issue was the addition of a 10% service charge ,when we would have much preferred to tip directly.

Our meal was excellent also the service.
With regret the cost was excessive so disappointing. This experience would encourage us to shop around for our next meal out.

Classy restaurant style with superb bar service.
The menu choice is creative and the food exquisite.
I would have no hesitation in recommending both the restaurant and hotel. A thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Set menu was brilliant. My salmon was perfect. Faultless. Ham terrine too. Dessert was Eton mess. Delicious.
Bread to start was welcome. It was room temperature. (Slightly warmed the whole thing would have been better.) But the butter was ready to spread. These little details are what make me like the experience so much.

Dining experience was excellent. Food was cooked to perfection, attention of staff was brilliant too, View of the Usher Hall and Castle was tremendous However wish we had been told there was an over 3 hour charge for the parking otherwise we would not have stayed on for extra drinks!

We arrived a bit early but were able to be seated right away which suited us ; a private table overlooking the square, by really nice attentive staff who had personality & made us feel welcome. I'd booked the 2 course (19.50/pp) deal as taking an older relative for dinner.Choice of 2 items per courses selected. +a drink each.Food was beautifully cooked & nicely presented.Glad we added the 2 side dishes(+7.50) as main course portions were not huge (this was a dining offer so this wasn't unexpected for a 5* hotel restaurant - given that my guest was older without a huge appetite this worked very well for this occasion - had I been with my husband i think we both might have wanted more food!) We both selected a seabass fillet main course & one of each of the dessert options. The fish was lovely; crispy skin & tender meat - the accompanying butter sauce let the fish's gentle flavour come through. There was a decontructed Eton mess with rhubarb/ginger compote for dessert - nice and zingy. The other dessert was a generous slice of dark choc tart w/ fresh raspberries & orange sorbet - indulgently rich but not over sweet, the fresh flavoured sorbet worked well with it.Definitely would go back as we were not rushed & we enjoyed the food & the dining experience there .
