Set in a half-timbered building from 1552 –the oldest of its kind in Manchester – The Old Wellington is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Close to Manchester Cathedral and Exchange Square, the traditional pub serves classic British dishes in a friendly atmosphere.

Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, the Old Wellington menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.

The Old Wellington bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.

Old Wellington in Manchester is a 10-minute walk from Salford Central Rail Station.

Really enjoyed our visit. Friendly staff, good selection of real ales and nice choice of hearty food. Prices realistic. Can particularly recommend their Pies. Nice setting as well. Would definitely recommend.

We've been to The Old Wellington a number of times now for either lunch or dinner and have never been disappointed. Our last visit was just after their recent refurbishment of the pub. It's looks great and has maintained all of the important historical aspects. The atmosphere is quite special and we always make this a place to take our international visitors. The food is always good. A few of us had one of their pies for dinner. I had chunky lamb and it was really good.

Brilliant service by the staff. Great tasty Pie menu. Pie tasted excellent. Only criticism is general food menu could be improved. The quality of the food could be improved.

The Old Wellington is a very atmospheric old building in the centre of Manchester and our table in the restaurant overlooked the bustling scene outside. The food was up to the usual high Nicholson standard.

great food (we tasted the pies), good portions although a bit pricey. The booking was at 7.30pm which is not that late but still the staff had already closed the top floor which is wonderful for dining, and decided to squeeze everyone on one floor.

The service and food was excellent, we have an autistic son and prior to booking asked for a quiet table., which was done. The pub itself is an amazing historical buildings. Would definitely book and use again plenty of seats outside for a beautiful summers day
