Set in a half-timbered building from 1552 –the oldest of its kind in Manchester – The Old Wellington is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Close to Manchester Cathedral and Exchange Square, the traditional pub serves classic British dishes in a friendly atmosphere.

Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, the Old Wellington menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.

The Old Wellington bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.

Old Wellington in Manchester is a 10-minute walk from Salford Central Rail Station.

For a very busy place in a vibrant area of Manchester the tables in the upstairs restaurant are very nicely arranged so that you don't feel like you're sharing your meal with every other diner. Food was very nice and freshly cooked (so don't expect fast food turn around times! Good food takes time to cook!), gin menu was interesting and service was fantastic. Friends had been before and suggested going back for our pre-Christmas gathering guessing it would be nice and festive, which it was. Would definitely go back again. Worth booking ahead if you can - it is a popular place! They were giving customers turning up on the day realistic waiting times and didn't fall into the trap of rushing everyone in and overloading the kitchen which meant that the quality of the food wasn't compromised.
This was a lovely haven in the middle of the madness that is the Christmas markets! Well worth a visit.

Have eaten here several times before as its close to the train station and arena plus in the buzzing city centre. The building is very quaint, medieval style. My partner loves it because they serve a good selection of real ales. The food is pub grub, nothing fancy but cooked well. My portion was quite small ,the Gannon was very salty so don't add any more! I would definitely go back .

A very special restaurant in an old, but comfortable wooden building. Good food and quiet environment. Much suitable for good frields to have a lunch or dinner with heart to heart talks.

Food was cooked to perfection. My lamb was extremely good, cooked in a very tasty sauce, and well complimented by the vegetable-mix and potatoes provided. My dining partners were both fully pleased by their dishes too.

I think the menu has been reduced.also we heard the waitress saying we would be 30mins when we still were eating mains and drinking which was out of order .food good.service by young man was great but the waitress was rather rude.overall bit disappointing .

Good pie, bring a baby. Initial service was below average no smiles or acknowledgement, probably stuck out more because Manchester generally is so friendly, once my friends arrived with a cute baby all the waitresses seemed to warm up. Expected a little more charm for oldest pub in manchester.

The place looked nice, food was okay but service wasn't good. We had one person who had special diet and the waitress didn't hear it when ordering the food. Later the customer was accused of not telling about the special diet even though it was mentioned when ordering. We ended up arguing with the waitress who came to complain and paying the mistake food because apparently in your restaurant customer is never right. The restaurant had nice atmosphere and we would have consumed more but due to the rude service we left.
