Excellent. Great, relaxed atmosphere, fantastic food and friendly service, although a little slow at times.

Occupying an 18th-century Soho Basement, Old Tom & English serves modern British food and vintage cocktails. Flavour-packed sharing plates are served against a sultry backdrop of red carpets and ambient lighting.

From the Old Tom & English menu savour the likes of confit smoked guinea fowl with anchovy mayo, Highland venison with truffled parsnip, blackberries and hazlenuts, smoked langoustines with rainbow chard, citrus jelly and ink mayo. Desserts are every bit as creative, and include banana bread with whisky cream and lemon and thyme doughnut with chocolate sauce and pistachio crumble.

The Old Tom & English bar offers all manner of classic and contemporary drinks. Joining craft beers and fine wines are a host of expertly crafted cocktails, including the Louis Royal, a blend of chambord and cognac, infused with sage, thyme and lemon, and topped off with champagne.

Exuding glamour and sophistication, Old Tom and English Soho is a 5-minute walk from both Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road tube stations.

What a great find. I was tasked with finding an interesting restaurant for a group of my friends, 6 in total. As it is one of London's hidden restaurants I decided to keep the restaurant and location secret from the others, even my wife. It was great to see their faces as one of them pushed the doorbell and we were ushered in and walked down the stairs into the retro bar. This is a great place for small groups of dinners as your tables are in little secluded areas, so it feels like private dinning. Each area is so retro. The styling in Old Tom and English is great.

We started with a selection of their interesting cocktails that were all really good. I love cocktails and this place does some of the best I have drunk.

We then moved on to order dinner. A nice and small focused menu with good variety. I had the scallops followed by the pollock pie (mash on the pollock). Food was really well prepared, presented and really nice. Don't expect massive portions, they are quite filling though. Wine list is small, but a really good selection and very good quality.

Staff were really welcoming, enthusiastic and friendly and obviously enjoyed working there.

This is a place I am going to return to.

Service and ambience delightful. Starters were fabulous and dessert was generous and excellent.
Our chosen main courses sadly did not quite live up to the promise of the starters being a little dry and overcooked.

Wonderful food and service. The fixed £30 menu is such great value. Great night with old friends. Tip; one side of chips is plenty between 3 girls - we all had steak, which was melt in the mouth good - especially as the above deal was 3 courses.

Fantastic food, friendly staff and lovely decor. Definitely one of the best menus I've seen. Favourite dishes were the pork and scallops

Very welcoming hostess, great food and wine. Tables were a bit too close together but still a nice atmosphere

The food was good not exceptional and Jacobs crackers with the cheese really? However we had a great evening and the drinks and surroundings were exceptional.

Great potential....but the waiting staff and manager were completely overwhelmed by numbers..They are obviously booking too many people with too few staff...Comedy of errors with diners receiving the wrong meals....Waitress unable to identify the dish she was serving, even though there are only four choices on the menu...Our drinks order was forgotten and we ended up drinking cocktails with our main course!..Then just to rub salt in the other drinks were offered..and our table was cleared...we vainly tried to catch a server's eye...but gave up trying!
If this was a typical evening at Old Tom and English it doesn't deserve to stay in business...
