Niche is an independent all day restaurant serving good honest British comfort food with a modern twist. Set within the trendy Islington neighbourhood, Niche Bakery & Restaurant serves age-old sweet and savoury treats with a contemporary stamp. Delivering a seasonal menu, all dishes are baked fresh and on site, making use of local suppliers and seasonal ingredients.

Niche's core menu offers traditional hand-raised pies, signature 'Niche Quiche', rare breed gluten-free sausages and burgers from artisan butchers Turner & George. Together with more innovative dishes, the menu is a testimony to the 'best of British' such as beer battered cod fillet with hand-cut skinny fries and slow-roasted pork belly straight from the stove. Sticky, sweet strawberry tarts lead the baked goods, along with a white chocolate, caramel and salted peanut blondie.

The modern interior is bright and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Islington bustle, while inside, the dining room soaks in natural light. Furnishing is minimalist and edgy, with potted table plants and dotted artwork providing sporadic flashes of colour.

Sadler’s Wells theatre is less than a minute’s walk from Niche Bakery & Restaurant in London, with Angel Tube Station just a 3-minute walk away.

Good service and nice staff. Generous portions. My daughter enjoyed her beefburger and I had a taste and agreed. My husband had what he expected to be a chicken burger and said he was surprise it was a piece of chicken breast, but I thought that was nice. He also thought a few chips on the side might have been nice. I ordered quiche and salad. Salad delicious, but I found the pastry rather hard and chewy and the filling slightly underdone. It is very possible to make gorgeous pastry with gluten free flour as I can do it myself, so I think this is an area you should look into.
    Desserts yummy thank you.

It was very disappointing: we waited 20 minutes before we were asked for our drink order which then took another 10 minutes to arrive. The dish we wanted to order, Salmon Nicoise, was not available but we were only told this after we had been waiting half an hour to order. We requested an Egg Nicoise instead. We were presented with a salad with neither egg nor salmon. When we queried this an egg was brought to the table. Although we requested bread 3 times, this didn't arrive at all. We were offered a top up of wine and were not charged for drinks or service, but the experience was not pleasant and we will not be returning - a pity.

I found the food very fresh and nicely presented. The only problem I found was that it was very loud, so not a relaxing place, but buzzy for those that liked it that way.

It looks like a family run business. Pleasant couple, nice service and home made food. Not a fancy restaurant but good for pre theatre meal.

The shared pre-theatre starter was ok, though for a bakery, the bread was bland and tasteless when I would have expected a variety of excellence. The main courses [1 pie and 1 quiche] were very tasty indeed; we had 2 sides of fries............ok but not crisp enough..........and lesser portions than a neighbouring table received as a part of their main dish. I had to return the bill TWICE FOR OVER-CHARGING; this is not acceptable in my book and the major reason I will not return and not recommend to friends and acquaintances. Two different staff 'blamed' the computerised till; maybe they need to learn how to use it.

    Response from restaurant:
Thank you for your feedback about your experience at Niche. I am pleased you enjoyed your main meal but am obviously disappointed that the bread selection and fries let us down on this occasion, please accept my sincere apologies and assurance that this is not the norm.

With regard to the issue with your bill, it is unfortunate that our staff blamed this on the till system, as one should never blame ones tools! That being said, we did have some teething problems with the system (and our ability to use it) which have now been resolved. I am very sorry for the error and assure you and readers of this review that we are absolutely not in the business of ripping off our customers: Consumer trust is an essential part of any successful business and as we plan to open more Niche restaurants in the future, this is important to us.

I hope you will give us an opportunity to redeem ourselves in the future.

We went for an early lunch on Sunday and were the first to arrive. It was pretty empty for a while but by the time we left the restaurant was buzzing with customers. The food selection was good - a broad range of meals, from Quiches and salads, to roast chicken and meatloaf. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food, once we'd ordered, was served quickly.

Very friendly staff, lunch was great and even picked up a fresh loaf of bread at the bakery section that was to die for...
