Excellent location for afternoon tea. Wonderful view and relaxed atmosphere I.e. It didn't feel touristy like some places. A special mention for the wonderful staff!!

Boasting a stunning 92-foot high location at the top of the National Portrait Gallery, the National Portrait Restaurant delivers modern European cuisine. Simple yet elegant presentation mirrors the beauty of the National Portrait Gallery beneath, and the panoramic London vista outside.

Served on level 3 of the National Portrait Gallery, The Portrait Restaurant menu features seasonally evolving dishes using produces from local suppliers. A la carte options feature grilled bream fillet with potted shrimp butter, spelt risotto with lemon mascarpone, and chargrilled Hereford rib eye beef with hand-cut chips, béarnaise and watercress.

Afternoon tea is a colourful menagerie of inventive creations. Pistachio éclair with praline grains and salt beef and sweet mustard sandwiches can be enjoyed with hand-roasted coffee or loose leaf teas. An extensive selection of New World and French wines can be enjoyed whilst taking in the breath-taking London skyline from the Portrait Bar.

With views stretching from Trafalgar Square to the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and the London Eye, The National Portrait Gallery is a 3-minute walk from Leicester Square Station.

A memorable event when we arrived to be welcomed from all the staff, who then continued to provide excellent service throughout the visit. Apart from the magnificent views from the dining area the menu lived up to a high standard - what could be better ?! The Portrait Restaurant must be one of the best in London.

Three of us enjoyed traditional afternoon tea with sandwiches, cakes, scones, tea, coffee and a glass of bubbles. The food was delicious and very generous. We couldn't eat it all! Staff were attentive and pleasant and the ambience was lovely.

Thoroughly enjoyed my tea at the Portrait Gallery. The food was very good and not your standard fare. Everything seemed very fresh. The scones were absolutely perfect. The biggest attraction of course is the view, but it is an added bonus to get really good food in a tourist location. My only complaint is thst , it closes so early, 5:30. It would be nice to sit there and linger a little bit in front of the beautiful view, then be able to go right to the theater. The service was excellent. My waiter was very Charming, everyone couldn't have been nicer. Your house blend; bourbon vanilla tea, was delicious. I would love to know where it can be bought. Thst5 may have been on the menu, but I missed it.
