A stunningly presented Japanese restaurant in Convent Garden, Murakami Restaurant blends izakaya-style dishes with unique interior design that represent the 5 elements of Japanese philosophy – fire, wind, water, metal and earth.

The Murakami Restaurant menu covers everything from classic sushi and sashimi favourites, to traditional izakaya sharing plates. Signature rolls feature prawn tempura, avocado, mango and spicy mango sauce, while special aburi rolls that are flame seared with Japanese charcoal combine tuna with caramelised onion salsa. From the Japanese robata grill there is Wagyu beef with truffle butter, and vegetarian recipes like grilled aubergine with saikyo miso.

There is a huge sake Japanese whisky and beer selection at Murakami Restaurant in Covent Garden, while unique cocktail creations use exciting flavours like roasted rosemary and yakitori sauce. Inside the restaurant, there are stunning design touches like a 12-metre wall filled with long grass, and numerous hanging art pieces.

With truly unique style and a versatile menu, Murakami Restaurant in London is a 2-minute walk from Leicester Square Tube Station.

The food was amazing and every dish we ordered was really good. However, the service was bad and we had to keep waiting for someone to attend to us. It even took us 5 min to get a table when there was no crowd and when we had already made a reservation.

Disappointed, that was my second time there, and unfortunately was a really bad experience... service was taking too long to serve us, and the restaurant wasn't full...by the end, we ate 50% of we'd like and gave up... wasn't a pleasures valentines dinner...????

This is a hard review as most of the food was outstanding however the pressure of Valentines Day was obviously a bit too much. Once seated it took a long time for someone to come over and take our drink order that we were ready to order the food by the time I managed to flag someone down. The food took about 40 minutes to come out and one of the dishes still hadn't arrived after an hour. I let a staff member know and they were very apologetic as they could see from their system it had been over an hour... and then when it did come out, it wasn't good. It was also very cold in the restaurant but we were given some free wine as an apology. Once the bill came, a total time of 3 hours had passed for 4 dishes ordered... the steak wasn't on the bill but its unknown whether this was a mistake as it had got lost in the system or whether they had taken it off deliberately. The sushi dishes we ordered were incredible, cannot fault the sushi, I'm salivating just thinking about it. But the steak was such a let down and the waiting means we won't be returning. The staff were great, and the free wine was well received but unfortunately doesn't make up for the ridiculous waiting time.

It was ok. Not the best Japanese restaurant we've been to but not the worst. Fairly expensive - almost £100 for two people - but it is in the heart of the West End. We didn't have loads of dishes - just a starter each and 3 main course dishes between us plus green tea, a glass of wine and bottle of water. What was disappointing is that they offered us a free cheesecake for desert and then charged it on the bill. In fairness they took it off when I pointed this out but even so.....

    Wouldn't go back.

Refurbished recently, to little purpose and seems to have doubled prices. Now very expensive (3 pieces of salmon sashimi for £7; six slices of wagyu beef for £25; small portion of cod for £18; average small jar of saki £28), but very ordinary quality - OK, but very ordinary. Trying to book on line for after an art exhibition, the web page said it was not open until 5.30, but in fact was for Valentine's Day (too lazy to update website). Dishes came as and when they were ready, with a long wait for the rice. Overall, very poor now, having liked its earlier format and pricing. Avoid.

This is my second time at the restaurant. Still think it is a really nice place with lots of buzz. Food was good but the aubergine that I had this time was not as nice as the first time and was much smaller and not as nicely cooked. Would recommend it still.

Crunchy scallop is the best sushi roll. I've yet to be seated in the middle main part of the restaurant even though I requested this area when booking, the font and back of the restaurant feel disjointed and have less ambience. Waiters were a little over attentive at the start. We had to state several times that we wanted to wait for our full party to arrive before ordering.

    Loved the blackened Tuna.
Nagaku Densa (aubergine) and veg tempura were slightly under cooked
