Firmly holding a Michelin star since 2006, Masons Arms blends classic pub charm and exquisite fine dining delicacies. Set in a 13th-century thatched cottage, owner and chef Mark Dodson brings 12 years’ experience working under Michel Roux.

Transforming honest, locally sourced ingredients into flawless creations, the Masons Arms menu showcases superb culinary skill. Crisply presented Masons restaurant dishes include monkfish loin wrapped in prosciutto with potato puree, or roulade of pork belly, braised red cabbage and apple compote.

Innovative twists for dessert include rhubarb trio or chocolate parfait and mandarin sorbet, or enjoy dainty macarons, homemade fudge and rich coffee. Guests can enjoy a sterling international wine list sourced from boutique growers either in the quaint, farmhouse-style dining room, or out on the lush terrace during summer.

A gem set in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, Masons Arms Knowstone was awarded the prestigious accolade of Michelin’s Pub of the Year in 2010.

We loved dining at the Masons Arms! The staff were friendly, helpful and interested. The menu had several interesting dishes to choose from, and our party of five each selected a different main course. We had some requests for modification ("can this be made without garlic" for instance), and each dietary request was accommodated readily. The food was delicious, cooked to the requested temperature and in the right portion sizes. We mentioned in our booking request that we were celebrating a birthday with our Aunt, and as a surprise we were provided with a tray of sweets (truffles, fudge and macaroons) with a special plate for our Aunt with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate. Put all of this in the context of the charming village of Knowstone, and it made for the perfect outing.

We returned to the Mason's Arms for a belated anniversary lunch have been previously for a birthday lunch. The meal was very enjoyable and the food delicious. The cost was reasonable and what we expected.

    Sadly disappointing
It's a very good pub ,but that's where it ends, not what you expect from a star.but star pricing.
The food was ok but lacked finess.
The waitressing staff lacked detail & never once asked how our food was.
And the plates were very much just plonked in from of us.
I wouldn't say don't go but I'm certainly not raving about it either.

Small, cosy, friendly with the choice of either a daily menu (2 courses £20) or a la carte, The Masons Arms, on the edge of Exmoor and on the Two Moors long distant footpath, continues to be deserving of its Michelin star.

Excellent as always. Extremely friendly knowledgeable staff. Excellent service. Food wonderful, all six meals - starters and mains exceptional. Very cosy environment in a lovely setting. We have been a number of times now for special occasions and have never been disappointed. My brother and wife from Luxembourg who eat at wonderful restaurants all over the world love it.

Beautiful countryside views, friendly and engaging staff. Lovely food, with nice gaps between courses.
