Firmly holding a Michelin star since 2006, Masons Arms blends classic pub charm and exquisite fine dining delicacies. Set in a 13th-century thatched cottage, owner and chef Mark Dodson brings 12 years’ experience working under Michel Roux.

Transforming honest, locally sourced ingredients into flawless creations, the Masons Arms menu showcases superb culinary skill. Crisply presented Masons restaurant dishes include monkfish loin wrapped in prosciutto with potato puree, or roulade of pork belly, braised red cabbage and apple compote.

Innovative twists for dessert include rhubarb trio or chocolate parfait and mandarin sorbet, or enjoy dainty macarons, homemade fudge and rich coffee. Guests can enjoy a sterling international wine list sourced from boutique growers either in the quaint, farmhouse-style dining room, or out on the lush terrace during summer.

A gem set in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, Masons Arms Knowstone was awarded the prestigious accolade of Michelin’s Pub of the Year in 2010.

Couldnt fault it. Service was helpful and charming. Food was delicious. I informed them at the time of booking, that one of us was vegetarian and he was offered alternatives to the vegetarian dishes on the menu - which was really appreciated. A nice atmosphere in both the lovely old pub and the restaurant area.

Superb! The Food was amazing and just stunning in presentation, we had such a warm welcome from the lovely family team and were so well looked after. I also loved the charm of the building which is exquisite. We went to the masons arms as It was my husbands birthday lunch and we had a leisurely peaceful lunch overlooking the restaurants beautiful views of the countryside - a wonderful dining experience- we will be back without a doubt!

This is a real find. The pub is a gorgeous thatched styled building that is more like a family home. We walked in to be met by a cosy bar area with a roaring fire. You can eat in the bar where dogs are welcome too.
The restaurant is not too big but has enough room between tables so that you don't feel cramped. This is not a formal restaurant so don't expect table cloths!
Whilst dining you can see the incredible views out over exmoor, and they are stunning!
My husband and I shared a table for two, we had a three course lunch on an A La Carte basis for £120. I had a smoked duck salad with a duck parfait, my husband had risotto balls stuffed with cheese, coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried with beetroot three ways. For main course I had venison with a potato and blue cheese stack, some fresh veg and a baked pear in red wine. My husband had monk fish wrapped in prosciutto with a smoked mackerel croquet and pan seared scallops. For desert I had a milk chocolate cheesecake with peanut ice cream and my husband had rhubarb three ways, soufflé, brûlée and pink wine jelly shot.
All in all the service was warm, the atmosphere relaxed ( you can pitch up in jeans and wellies if you wish!), and the food amazing! Would we return? Yes, and we will.

Birthday treat for me from my son. Hadn't been for a few years but food as excellent as ever. The seared Tuna starter and my beef w xnails were both fab especially the tuna. Service exemplory. Love the bar area but never been a huge fan of the dining room decor which is a little sparse and cold aesthetically for my taste. Still a great evening out.
