Firmly holding a Michelin star since 2006, Masons Arms blends classic pub charm and exquisite fine dining delicacies. Set in a 13th-century thatched cottage, owner and chef Mark Dodson brings 12 years’ experience working under Michel Roux.

Transforming honest, locally sourced ingredients into flawless creations, the Masons Arms menu showcases superb culinary skill. Crisply presented Masons restaurant dishes include monkfish loin wrapped in prosciutto with potato puree, or roulade of pork belly, braised red cabbage and apple compote.

Innovative twists for dessert include rhubarb trio or chocolate parfait and mandarin sorbet, or enjoy dainty macarons, homemade fudge and rich coffee. Guests can enjoy a sterling international wine list sourced from boutique growers either in the quaint, farmhouse-style dining room, or out on the lush terrace during summer.

A gem set in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, Masons Arms Knowstone was awarded the prestigious accolade of Michelin’s Pub of the Year in 2010.

Fantastic food, wine, service and atmosphere. A real experience

Overall it was a good experience. It was a celebration dinner with our family of 4.
Booking the table was easy and efficient. On getting to the restaurant the staff were lovely at the bar and the waitresses lovely taking our orders etc. There was a bit of a wait as we had booked for 19.45 and hubby was a bit late coming from work. We probably didn't start eating till 8.30ish. However we were served nibbles and canapés in the lounge.
All the starters were good and very much enjoyed. I ordered the lamb which was a tad disappointing, with not much taste and not melt in the mouth, also could not taste the aubergine accompaniment. My husband had the halibut and although the fish was first class my husband felt the crust on the fish detracted from the fish and didn't really bring anything to the dish. Our adult children really enjoyed their mains.
The only outstanding pud was the drambuie soufflé which my son had. Both my hubby and daughter said that the lime jelly was too overpowering for the white chocolate cheesecake. My rice pudding dish was ok but the sorbet was lovely and refreshing.
We didn't have wine with the meal as we were both driving but my daughter had a birthday celebratory Kir Royale which she thoroughly enjoyed but on getting the bill we found it was £14.50 for one glass, we thought that was a bit expensive!
Overall as I say we enjoyed the ambience of the Mason Arms and your lovely staff. As we live in North Devon we will probably go again, but not for awhile. We were expecting to pay as it is a Michelin star restaurant, but I felt it the food did not match my expectations.

The most amazing lightly home smoked mackerel followed by unctuous belly pork and a rhubarb parfait. Mark Dodson and his team at their very best. Sarah's matched wine suggestions make the meal complete! Thank you for a wonderful lunch.

May have been an off day. Dated in decor and poor, rather sterile ambience. Pleasant service. Food was mediocre - the dishes didn't really gel and either lacked flavour or were swamped by one flavour. Soggy skin on fish a real turn off. From this visit it is very hard to see how it is Michelin starred.

Lovely little country pub atmosphere with a welcoming fire as well as thomas the Labrador!
Through to the intimate dining room and had a lovely lunch which lived up to expectations
    I will be back.

Our first visit to this charming very old thatched inn, with lovely interior, cosy wood fire in the lounge where we sat for pre-lunch drinks and menu selection.
The restaurant area was equally cosy and very tastefully decorated, loved the ceiling! Views of beautiful countryside from our rustic dining table. Food beautifully presented and prepared to perfection. All extremely delicious.
Mark and Sarah's warm welcome and hospitality were first class, with a nice touch of an au revoir from Mark as we left.
Thank you very much, we will return for sure.
