Booked dinner for Sunday prior to Theatre in Covent Garden and arrived at booked time to find gaggle of staff around reception desk who ignored me on entry until I repeated hello several times, whereupon they all dispersed except for girl behind desk who said she had a problem ! Repeating my booking request for a table by the window receptionist said that another waiter had just given our table away. Nevertheless she then gave us a choice of two other window tables which was fine.
The restaurant is nicely laid out and has hundreds of colourful puppets on the ceiling.
Wines by the glass(£7+) and beers (£5 +) expensive
so settled on small sparkling water(£2.75) + coke(£3.25).
The menu is quite different from the normal Indian fare in that one whole page is devoted to Thali dishes( choose curry and this accompanied by a host of smaller dishes and indian bread) so had a grand thali (£18) with saffron chicken korma and companion had a chicken biryani accompanied by a large amount of raitha as it was quite spicy and hot. My korma was mild but a couple of the accompaniments were pretty hot.
Service for drinks was fast but had to call waiter over for food order and took about 25 minutes to receive food, which seemed the norm as we could couldn't see anyone else actually eating, until our order arrived.
Overall food was tasty but hot and the rice served with the thali was lifeless and had lumps in it, which is always a bad sign in an indian restaurant.
Service despite what looked like dozens of waiters was indifferent, although our waitress with the tattoos was great.
Total bill including 12.5 % service was £44 which would have been a lot more if we had had some drinks.
Overall it was interesting but not enough to go back.

Excellent setting, location and service. The Masala Chai was divine. That said, massively disappointed with size of portions of both starters and main course. They were tiny compared to prices charged and didn't even come close to representing vfm. Further disappointed by the poor cuts of chicken thigh in my main course curry when was compounded by the fact I had deliberately avoided choosing any dish on the menu which mentioned chicken thighs so to find my curry dish served up with just that and low volume/quality as said when it wasn't mentioned in the menu was just not good enough. MZ would do well to use better quality parts of chicken like breast and offer bigger portion to justify the prices they are charging. Overall disappointed given what I had heard about MZ.

Lovely chicken Korma. My 12 year old daughter and I didn't leave even a single bit of rice.

Booking table was really easy on line. Really friendly service, with the waiter advising us regarding the menu. Impressive and colourful venue. Slightly disappointed with the food, but that is probably because we have a fantastic Indian Street food restaurant in Sheffield, namely Urban Choola. Worth the visit though.

Even though I love Indian food I don't like onions...but this was no problem for the staff at Masala Zone. Everything came as ordered in approx 15 minutes even though the restaurant was full. The food was lovely and service was great. We'll definitely return.
