The eponymous 2 Michelin-starred restaurant from revered chef Marcus Wareing, Marcus is the sophisticated dining space of The Berkeley hotel in Knightsbridge. After 10 glorious years as Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, the restaurant underwent a major renovation, and a name change, to reopen as a more relaxed and contemporary environment.

Serving modern European cuisine rooted in British culture, the Marcus menu presents sumptuous offerings like Galloway beef with potato, cabbage, marrow and short rib, and turbot with Dorset snails, shallot and gnocchi. There’s a creative vegetarian selection offering bold combinations such as burrata with nettles and pine nuts, while an 8-course tasting menu can be partnered with fine wines selected by the sommelier.

Innovative tasting plates feature on the lunch menu at Marcus in London, while an elegant 3-course selection includes the option of ordering just a single course. Providing the perfect balance between sophistication and relaxation, the restaurant interior is characterised by clean, classical lines and a refined colour palette.

    We were booked in for the offer advertised on Bookatable - 5 course for 49 pounds including coffee/tea/nutmeg custards to take home. The menu given to us on the night contained 1 dish less than the advertised offer. When I asked to speak to the manager to explain that this was clearly NOT a 5-course menu he tried to persuade us that the amuse bouche (then when that did not he switched to the petit fours) were actually one of the courses. I explained that this is not clearly the case in other restaurants. In an attempt to rectify the manager brought us an extra dessert saying without apologising and quite unprofessionally... 'because you were upset'. I said I was not upset and it was simply a case of delivering on your promise (i.e. as per the offer booked). He replied arrogantly... 'I think we have over-delivered'... I am sorry but this is not the customer-oriented service one would expect from a 2-Michelin star restaurant. If the restaurant cannot support the discounted menu and look down on customers who take it then it should not offer it in the first place! The service was generally bad with large gaps in between courses. The food was good but the main course (lamb) was blunt. We were a group of four. My lamb was cold but nicely cooked (pink) but my companion's was way over-cooked. Overall a very disappointing experience mostly because of the arrogance of service. Clearly the manager needs to be sent on a customer service training course!

    Terrible, not even close to Michelin star quality, attention to detail or service. Not sure if it's because of the deal or just the commercial nature of the restaurant, but it's probably a Michelin problem not a book a table deal problem.

    A bit sad... We had high expectations, especially as Marcus is a public person and you then start to belive you know that he has a certain value of the food he will present to you etc.... But with 2 Michelin stars to live up to, I felt he let us down a bit... on the food experience... It started with the bread and butter which was nothing compared to what I can make!..
    The only two dishes (out of five and extra) that made me think I'm eating in a Michelin starred restaurant, were the salt beef & egg, the egg and beef were both cooked to perfection! (although it lacked seasoning in my opinion) and the pudding: Date, Pecan and butterscotch. I am NOT a pudding person, so that fact that pudding was my favourite says a little about the rest.... I chose venison over lamb, and felt is was chewy and very boring... sadly.... The salmon was very disappointing too. a bit like average smoked salmon with some bits that didn't do much ....
    The wine was very sparingly, and we had dishes without any wine in our glass... (obviously we could have ordered extra, but felt that it would have been nice if the wine option catered for this!..?)
    We were five around the table and have all been lucky to dine in many fine restaurants over many years, and we agreed that the best ones are the ones who haven't yet been awarded a star, but are on the brink - and are working hard at being innovative and exciting.... (and have not got the cushion of a fancy London hotel....) Unfortunately Marcus was not that - at least not for our lunch yesterday... sorry!
    BUT, the staff were amazing! And the Berkeley is a great venue to meet friends and have lunch. Restaurant was almost full which was nice. We were five friends who decided to have a good time... hence the relatively high score, we did not bring atmosphere down with critical food reviews....
    I'm sad to say I will not go back, but MIGHT recommend depending on what experience my friends would want.... mostly because the staff were brilliant!!

    From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we felt really special. All the staff were exceptionally attentive and gave us first class service. The festive bellini at the beginning set us on the right path and was finished with a surprise birthday cake. Wonderful touch. The chocolates at the end of the meal where literally melt in the mouth.

    We had a 5 course meal that was very nice.

    Was it exceptional , unfortunately not.

    We found that the use of nuts in a number of dishes was a little overpowering

    The Lamb was cooked for 36 hours in 60deg bath . This made the texture and taste a little bland

    Will I go back... Yes but maybe in 6 months when Marcus changes the menu
