Went under the Bookatable Scheme, but didn't fancy anything off the limited choice bargain (?) menu, so went a la carte. This is a huge former banking hall of the Midland Bank converted into the restaurant and the adjacent luxury Hotel. Everything is massive - huge columns, 30 foot high ceilings etc, so one feels lost and inconsequential. Only half a dozen diners on a Monday night (when we got there at 8pm, and we were the only ones left as we went at 9.30pm, so completely lacking in atmosphere for a romantic birthday dinner for my wife.
Very disappointed with the food from the Marco Pierre White kitchens : Nina's calamari to start was nothing out of the ordinary, and my escargots bourguignonne were overloaded in breadcrumbs which made it very dry, and somehow the dish was much over-salted. There was plenty of assorted fish in my fish pie, and Nina had chicken, but neither dish had any "Wow" factor as one would expect from such a name and price. We passed on desserts, just having a couple of scoops of ice cream each, but decided these vanilla and maple flavours were the best part of the meal. Nina enjoyed her tasty Burns whisky cocktail and I my Pear Mojito Mocktail.
The staff were excellent : efficient, helpful service and very friendly manner - shame about the food.

We have utilised a lot of the deals that bookatable have and I have to say this was the worst we have attended, we booked 3 courses and a glass of fizz for £29.99. we where shown to our table and the menus where given at no point where we offered the glass of fizz and in the end I had to ask for it. we ordered starters one of us had the salt beef and the other the calamari, the calamari was served on a tomato puree I asked the waiter if I could have some lemon he said that it is sitting on a tomato base I asked again he went away and came back with a hole lemon just cut in half there was no finesse in the serving. we both had the lamb which was good it was supposed to be served with purple sprouting in fact it was served with broccoli. we then asked for a cheese board to share this was served, we asked the waiter if he could tell us what the cheeses where as he could not answer and had to go and get the menu and informed us that they where all British showing us the menu. when I questioned him further about the cheeses which in fact where good and asked if he could tell us the names he pointed at the one as said that's cheddar. this is not the service I would expect from a restraint of this calibre and we where very disappointed we would not recommend and will not be returning to this particular venue

I found the food and service amazing. The waiter was so tentative but not over bearing. We choose the set menu which was fabulous - the portion sizes were just right and very good value for money. I would definitely go back.

Attended for afternoon tea. Lovely and relaxing venue with beautiful glass dome ceiling. Was not expecting tables to be within reception/lobby area, from the website the area seemed bigger and as if the seating area would be further in, however it did not take anything away from the dinning experience and it did seem to offer that feel of being at the heart of the hotel. It was relaxing, imitmate and cosy. Very clean place with excellent restrooms with superior paper towels and wash and hand cream. The afternoon tea was presented exceptionally well with lots to eat for each diner , presented on a lovely tiered circular presentation trays, we had sweet and savoury scones, sandwiches, quiche (a welcome surprise as not had with previous afternoon teas) variety of cakes and lovely tart. The variety was really good and presented very nicely. There was ample clotted cream, jam and a savoury herb butter for the savoury scone. In fact the size of the scones were miniature which was a great touch as they are often big and filling. Everything tasted just right, fresh and tasty and you could get refills of your tea/coffee. I was also happy that they were able to accommodate my special request 'birthday greeting ' for one of the party, presented on platter with chocolate truffles and we sang happy birthday whilst it was presented. The waiter was very attentive, pleasant throughout and could do enough for you. Overall this has been the best afternoon tea I have had and I would go again if visiting in the city as ideally located following visit to the shard or if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the west end.

I would never ever recommend this place, we went for afternoon tea and the service and the staff were both just awful. The manager came out when we complained.. But she too was rude abs abrupt, just not the level of service you would expect from MPW.

There is no afternoon tea menu, the waiter has no idea what is in the platter he is serving, they cannot accommodate to service pregnant women or special diets. Additionally, they offer no tea until you request at least three times. To really make you laugh, you even have to ask for jam and clotted cream to eat with your scones. First and last experience would never visit this place again.
