In a magnificent converted building, Malmaison Leeds serves sumptuous modern British cuisine. The Chez Mal Bar & Brasserie is a superb addition, with rustic exposed brick offset by neon and filament light bulbs, giving the restaurant a relaxed, modern atmosphere.

Serving modern reinventions of classic local cuisine, the Malmaison menu is committed to sourcing the best produce in the region. Sophisticated yet accessible, a beautifully presented a la carte selection foregrounds bold, wholesome flavours. Tasty vegetarian options and succulent fish dishes are served, as well as sublime New York strip steak cuts.

For a relaxed tone, diners can head to the sleek bar at the Malmaison restaurant. Subdued and atmospheric, a cosmopolitan selection of cocktails showcases signature creations from the Mal mixologists, alongside a well-balanced range of world wines.

Sleek yet rustic, The Brasserie at theLeeds Mal offers warm wood panelling and squashy chocolate leather seating. Leeds Rail Station is just 7 minutes’ walk away.

Good food. Helpful friendly service. Ambience less positive. Not so much a restaurant, more a business hotel bar. Wine expensive. Good location near station.

I took my mum for Afternoon Tea and Cocktails as a treat for Mother's Day. Staff were helpful in seeing us straight away and getting us to our table. Tea/coffee were ordered and brought to us immediately. There were only 4 cocktails on the menu but the ones we did have were gorgeous. The food was lovely and the lounge we were seated in was very relaxed and quiet. It did start to get busier as our 'fine-dining' continued. Being tucked away in the corner meant that staff weren't perhaps as attentive as they were with other tables. Overall, we both enjoyed Mother's Day - the food was tasty and filling, the tea/coffee and cocktails were equally as nice. The general mood and vibe of the lounge was very relaxed.

Lovely warm welcome. Nothing too much trouble. Enjoyable experience. Only negative would be my suggestion to drop the shakes. Staff charming.

would be better if had a choice to swap some of the desserts for more sandwiches, and if the area that the food was served in was set up like a tea room felt like you were just sat in the bar

Very welcoming staff with good service and lovely food. There were six of us dining and we had a 3course set meal which included a glass of house wine for £20 which I think is really good value considering the good standard of food and portion sizes. The restaurant does have a lot of dark wood and low lighting which adds to the ambience; I liked it but propably not to everyones taste. Will certainly be going back.

I have dined in a few restaurants for afternoon tea but my experience at the Malmaison was the best by far. The food was lovely and if anything there was too much,so we did take food to take a away. I booked for 1pm,however if you prefer more atmosphere it got busier later on. Would also recommend informing the restaurant beforehand if any guests are vegetarian or gluten free as this took a whilw to sort but would go back because the food was delicious.
