After having a terrible experience on my last visit where me and my family got up and walked out I was a bit reticent to come back. But I did and it was fine. The service and the food was good.

Set in the middle of the popular Basingstoke Leisure Park with its swimming pool, cinema and indoor skydiving, Little Frankie's Basingstoke is a bustling eatery offering a fun slice of New York Italian-inspired dining with a 1950s soundtrack.

There's a huge selection of American and Italian favourites on the Little Frankie's menu. Flavourful starters range from sticky chicken wings with BBQ or hot sauce, to Brooklyn bruschetta with pulled beef and chopped chives. Thin-crust Italian pizzas feature rich Neapolitan sauce and toppings like salami, mozzarella and jalapeños, while classic pasta recipes include bolognaise and chicken penne pesto. Fully stacked signature burgers come topped with everything from meatballs to mac and cheese, and there is an entire gluten-free menu packed with choice too.

Desserts at Little Frankie's include signature cinnamon waffles topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce, and warm apple pie with custard. There are towering sundaes, light sorbets, and a range of milkshakes. The bar mixes up colourful cocktails, and serves a great wine and beer selection too.

Offering a perfect escape from the leisure park crowds, Little Frankie's Basingstoke is 8 minutes' drive from Basingstoke Rail Station.

I have been in Frankie's a few times before and it has been good. On this occasion it was very poor indeed. It was still Easter school holiday time and the place was crowded with families. We had a booked table for four at 1.00 p.m. The table was there for us and it was fine. Nobody even spoke to us until 1.20. The food was very slow in coming and was poor. We were booked into a circus in the afternoon and didn't manage to get out of Frankie's until 2.15, which made it very tight for us. We had to ask twice for extra drinks for the kids, which only came as we were leaving. The staff were nice and friendly, but just overworked. Frankie's need to add more staff to cope with many more lunchtime customers during school holidays.

The service was great, not sure what his name was but he was very helpful. My pasta had far too much salt in and I did struggle to eat. There also wasn't that much chicken in it.

Have been many times in the past and always had great experience. Sadly not this time. Waited 5 minutes to be acknowledged and welcomed, no apology for the delay. Waitress was pleasant and friendly but very slow to take orders. Drinks ordered not available but still appeared in the bill. Starter came quickly then waited for 50 mins for main courses to be served. No plates or glasses cleared all evening. The restaurant did not appear overly busy so we were surprised at the delay. Bill was wrong and when I questioned the response was "well what's wrong?" No apology just a new bill. Sadly no tip was left which is unusual for me. Based on last nights experience I would not recommend but this is the only poor experience we have had of the restaurant in 8 years of custom, we would be willing to give it another try but if that was the same - I'm afraid you would lose our custom.

The drinks arrived but I was still waiting with my four grandchildren nearly 40 minutes later for our food order and I had to ask the waiter to check. Unfortunately the kitchen had forgot to process my order. The children were complaining they were hungry and they were given a complimentary small bowl of chips between all of them and their drinks were replenished whilst we were still waiting for our meals. I purposely booked a table for 4.30 so we would be home early however it was dark when we eventually arrived home and was nearly bedtime for the youngest two. This treat was somewhat spoilt by th delay.

There were 5 at our table & 3 meals were very poor; my sons toast was burnt and stale, my bacon was barely cooked despite asking for crispy bacon and my daughters eggs were undercooked and gloopy on the top, my coffee was so strong that I had to return it for a fresh one, only for the waitress to bring over a fresh cup of equaliy strong coffee. So I returned it again. Then we had refills and yes you've guessed it....shame I used to like it there!

Very poor main course, Onion Rings soggy and cool/virtually no cheese topping on Burger/Bacon was all fatty and could not eat/Coleslaw was tasteless. Fanta drinks appeared watered down. Not impressed and will never eat here again. Manager very apologetic and offered free meals next visit and reduced meals by 50%. I advised quite prepared to pay full as I did eat most but not happy, cannot understand why you cannot get standard run of the mill food right !!!
