Lovely atmosphere and fantastic food. The staff were particularly helpful and we enjoyed the steel band.

Housed in a 15th-century building, Le Talbooth has grown from a quiet tea room into an award-winning restaurant. Experience fine dining overlooking the River Stour, and choose from a menu which draws from East Anglia’s rich bounty of produce.

Chef Andy Hirst’s cooking is modern British in style, adding innovative touches to local ingredients to create the Talbooth menu. Le Talbooth has 3 individual dining rooms - The River Room unfurls onto the outside terrace which is sheltered by a striking sail,. The Old Room is a smaller, more intimate room with inglenook fireplaces, and the Weavers Room on the first floor is used for private dining and parties.

From the menu, discover the likes of citrus-cured hand-dived scallops with dill gremolata, keta caviar and pickled ginger, or fillet of dry-aged Dedham Vale beef Rossini with rosti potato, spinach and Madeira jus. Finish with indulgent desserts like apple and gooseberry soufflé with vanilla milk ice cream.

The restaurant was busy and quite obviously short on staff to cope with the numbers. This resulted in a long long delay in receiving our food, over an hour before the main course. When the food arrived it was generally good so no complaints about the food. However the level of service and knowledge from the staff was not that good.

    Very good.
The whole ambiance of the experience was excellent . Little expensive with the Adnams Southwold Bitter at £5.50 a pint-most expensive yet!

We were very early in and he staff were almost too attentive ".Hovering" around waiting for us to finish the different courses.

Very soft background music may be an aid

As usual the food'service and ambiance was excellent as we have come to expect from Le Talbooth this not being our first visit, a fitting end to celebrating my 80th birthday. All the party expressed what an enjoyable time they experienced.

Very enjoyable evening at this delightful restaurant. Staff greet you at the door and attend to your every need throughout your evening. The menu gave plenty of choice and staff were able to give full details of each dish and recommend dishes if asked. The wine list too was excellent.
The restaurant is furnished beautifully, however, I did feel the tables were a little too close together
This was not our first visit to Le Talbooth and it most certainly will not be our last.

Very pleasant restaurant . Service very good until requesting a taxi to be booked for us . Apparently they have significant problems arranging to get taxi's . Therefore the word of advice is if you think you may need a taxi home make sure you arrange a collection time or be prepared to wait until 2 am in the morning

Perfect from arrival through paying the bill. Good ingredients of top quality creativly and superbly prepared and presented. Service was efficient but not obsequious. Wine list had enough choice and was fairly priced. Best meal out in months. A destination restaurant. Not sure how Michelin rates it but should easily be a 1 star!
