Housed in a 15th-century building, Le Talbooth has grown from a quiet tea room into an award-winning restaurant. Experience fine dining overlooking the River Stour, and choose from a menu which draws from East Anglia’s rich bounty of produce.
Chef Andy Hirst’s cooking is modern British in style, adding innovative touches to local ingredients to create the Talbooth menu. Le Talbooth has 3 individual dining rooms - The River Room unfurls onto the outside terrace which is sheltered by a striking sail,. The Old Room is a smaller, more intimate room with inglenook fireplaces, and the Weavers Room on the first floor is used for private dining and parties.
From the menu, discover the likes of citrus-cured hand-dived scallops with dill gremolata, keta caviar and pickled ginger, or fillet of dry-aged Dedham Vale beef Rossini with rosti potato, spinach and Madeira jus. Finish with indulgent desserts like apple and gooseberry soufflé with vanilla milk ice cream.

On arrival we were greeted with the words (Can I help you ?). Do you have a reservation with us today ? May have been nicer and more polite as we in fact did have a reservation . Otherwise the whole experience was excellent. Drinks in the bar very welcoming and nuts and olives always a nice introduction to a meal. The waiter attention at the table was extremely good. We had the set price Sunday lunch. We felt it was very good value for money and we were not rushed in any way . As it was my daughters birthday it made it a very special occasion for her. The atmosphere was calm attentive and efficient . My husband was particularly impressed with the Dover sole ,he said it was delicious . The lamb was excellent too, cooked to perfection for us. Deserts were beautifully presented and a delight .
We were offered coffee and chocolates outside which was very enjoyable as the sun was out ,despite being a little windy. The staff lit the heaters on the patio in case it was too cool . The flowers in the patio area were beautiful alongside the river . All in all a lovely Sunday lunchtime / afternoon .
My daughter has just moved to the area and therefore it is very close to her home and we will certainly be visiting again soon . Thanks to all your staff.

Wow what could be better than dining at La Talbooth. Beautiful setting by the river. Best meal I have had for many years. The staff were so polite and courteous. Looking forward to our next visit.

The meal was delicious .the staff were very good. Sitting in the Terrace was amazing. My only complaint is that your cocktail list was disappointing. Being that my wife could not have her pina colada . This is the first time this has happened. But rest assured we will return .

The crab and avacardo was the best and I would have again. I wish I had the chateau briand beef. I had rabbit. All cooked very well, but was not really for me.
And the dessert can not go wrong with chocolate or fault that at all. Amazing. Very surprised not Mitchilin Star.
I wish they did a taster menu as you can't choose.

Top draw gourmet. cuisine with brilliant East Anglian flair. Very genuine and helpful sommelier and first class wine list.
The classic English environment of the old wood beam building on the river makes this positively idyllic.

It is always a pleasure and an occasion to attend Le Talbooth. The wonderful setting, grounds and interior are outstanding and matched by the warm and excellent service. The food is ambitious yet crucially well delivered. Plenty of choice for each course and the Sunday lunch at £39.50 represents excellent value. The wine list is also a strong point with good options across the price spectrum. In summary the excellent guest experience is the result of great team work, back of house, front of house as well as on the presentation of the restaurant itself.
