WE HAD A LOVELY EVENING AT THE LAZY TOAD. THE ABSENCE OF LOUD MUSIC WAS A GREAT RELIEF AND IT WAS SO GOOD TO HAVE A PLEASANT GREETING WHEN WE ARRIVED. THE CHOICE OF DISHES WAS JUST RIGHT AND THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL. I ESPECIALLY LIKED THE HOMEMADE CHRISTMAS PUDDING.

A classic country pub, The Lazy Toad Inn Exeter has earned a place in the Michelin Guide with its hearty British and European menu. Housed in an 18th-century, Grade II-listed building, this character-packed pub also boasts a peaceful beer garden.

Favourites on The Lazy Toad menu include loin of pork with Jerusalem artichoke purée, salt-baked celeriac and red wine salsify, blue cheese and hazelnut tortellini with crispy kale, and classic fish and chips served with minted mushy peas and hand-cut chips. Amongst the indulgent desserts, savour glazed banana loaf with peanut butter ice cream, or lemon posset with passion fruit jelly and shortbread biscuit.

With open fires and original features, The Lazy Toad in Brampford Speke is a charmingly rustic venue serving English and international wines, and local ales. Sunday roasts are also a firm favourite.

The Lazy Toad Inn Devon sits in an idyllic village on the banks of the River Exe. Exeter is just a 15-minute drive away.

Surprised we were the only diners. Service was obviously good. The menu had a good choice for lunchtime dining.

A very friendly welcome , roaring fire and polite attentive service. The food was delivered promptly and was elegantly presented and packed with flavour. Fish dishes were delicately cooked perfectly and my sticky rich Blade of beef was a warming and delicious dinner on a cold December evening. A bottle of dry Provence Rose and Chilean merlot were flavourful and well balanced and great value. A pint of yellow hammer was fresh and bright and served at the perfect temperature. A great evening and we will be back!
    Thanks very much

    Nice evening well looked after.
Great starters of ham hock and terrine. Pheasant and pigeon casserole was slightly over cooked and very salty for our taste but overall a good evening in a favourite pub.

Friendly welcome from polite and pleasant staff. Fire going on arrival created a warm and cosy feel. Good atmosphere - quiet and sophisticated.
I've given the food a 4/ 5 as there was a little too much batter on the fish. Other than this, a great experience (this didn't make our evening any less enjoyable - it's only an observation).
    Thank you very much.

Had lunch for 4, booked table in advance just in case. Easy to find, off the main road to Crediton although not far. Car park nice and large and no pot holes, which is always good. Outside very nice, a beer garden and covered area rather Mediterranean looking. Inside beautifully decorated in soft shades from Farrow and Ball (we asked the owner!) Tables nicely laid out it didn't feel like we were sat on top of each other. The tables had been sanded to a smooth clean finish and no sticky varnished tops that you find in so many pubs today. Everything was spotless. Cutlery gleamed and the condiments looked freshly polished! Beer well kept. Staff very good indeed, friendly yet with just the right amount of attention and not over attentive which can be irritating. Food arrived within 15 minutes. I had Apple and swede soup to start which was hot and delivered in a warmed bowl and was very tasty indeed. Main course of Fish and Chips done in that modern pub style, Chips were actually on the plate and not in some stupid basket, which was nice. Chips were crisp and looked double cooked. Fish was good quality and nicely battered not too greasy either, mushy peas were very tasty. All served on plates and not a piece of slate or a chopping board!! No room for dessert although we all had a coffee, which was also very good. Spent a very happy two hours + and left wanting to return. I suspect during the summer the beer garden is very popular as it was well laid out with good clean seating and looked well cared for. The whole pub had an air of professionalism about it.
