Lovingly run by a husband and wife team since 2008, The Laughing Monk Strete adds richly indulgent touches to locally sourced produce. Proud of its location, all of the fish comes straight from local fisherman and all meat comes from local Devon farmers.

Irresistible dishes on The Laughing Monk menu include slow-roasted Dartmoor pork belly with roast potatoes, caramelised apple tart, buttered greens and cider gravy. Among the more exotic dishes are noodle broth with pickled ginger, king oyster mushrooms, vegetable tempura and chili jam.

Housed in the former village school, The Laughing Monk Restaurant has retained many original features. Built in 1839, the building features original oak floors and an open fire, whilst the bright, modern décor and colourful artwork add a more contemporary feel.

Just one mile from the beach on the main coastal road between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, The Laughing Monk in Devon is a 14-minute drive from Dartmouth town centre.

Excellent food - premises a little dark - better lighting would enhance atmosphere. Great attentive staff

The "Laughing Monk" has to be the Gem of Gems, wonderful attentive staff and such a relaxed atmosphere. We thought the menu was very well balanced and went for the seafood elements which were presented and cooked/prepared to perfection. Boy does this restaurant know how to cook fish ! Absolutely stunning... we cannot wait to return... 10/10 "Laughing Monk". The booking process on line was so simple and efficient,no need for phone calls.

A truly lovely way to spend a 30th wedding anniversary evening.

The menu was interesting and varied with local produce options. The food was prepared and presented to the highest standard, and on warm plates too (hallelujah!).

The waiting staff were friendly, cheerful, welcoming and very attentive. We got the impression that we were being served by a team that were glad to be working there. Service was very prompt and efficient.

The venue had a lovely decor and ambience with perfect lighting levels and no painful acoustics. Clearly a building with an interesting past it was a pleasure to sit for the brief wait between courses.

There was ample space between tables with to feeling of being crowded or hemmed in.

The toilets are very clean and of the highest standard.

We will dine here again and will recommend the Laughing Monk to friends without hesitation

Well done the Laughing Monk team. You set a standard that many other local restaurants should aspire to.

Excellent experience. The food was very good-fresh, well cooked and served sensitively. The staff were also very attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes they presented. We loved the atmosphere and the wine was reasonable price and very good too.
My partner and I try to eat at Fine Dining places several times a year and we would rate this as up to the standard of L'encume and better that 3 Chimneys. Well done and thank you.
