Great place to eat
26 September 2016
Lovingly run by a husband and wife team since 2008, The Laughing Monk Strete adds richly indulgent touches to locally sourced produce. Proud of its location, all of the fish comes straight from local fisherman and all meat comes from local Devon farmers.
Irresistible dishes on The Laughing Monk menu include slow-roasted Dartmoor pork belly with roast potatoes, caramelised apple tart, buttered greens and cider gravy. Among the more exotic dishes are noodle broth with pickled ginger, king oyster mushrooms, vegetable tempura and chili jam.
Housed in the former village school, The Laughing Monk Restaurant has retained many original features. Built in 1839, the building features original oak floors and an open fire, whilst the bright, modern décor and colourful artwork add a more contemporary feel.
Just one mile from the beach on the main coastal road between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge, The Laughing Monk in Devon is a 14-minute drive from Dartmouth town centre.

Over priced and over rated no atmosphere can't have a conversation unless you want the next table to hear what you're saying
£8.25 for a slice of bakewell tart and a spoonful of ice cream, not everyone are tourist.

The Dartmouth Crab and prawn cocktail was excellent as was the Dartmoor beef. The portions are sizable so be sure to have a light lunch if you are going for dinner. Even with a full house it never became too noisy and we could easily converse at our table in front of the wood fire.

Excellent food - premises a little dark - better lighting would enhance atmosphere. Great attentive staff

The "Laughing Monk" has to be the Gem of Gems, wonderful attentive staff and such a relaxed atmosphere. We thought the menu was very well balanced and went for the seafood elements which were presented and cooked/prepared to perfection. Boy does this restaurant know how to cook fish ! Absolutely stunning... we cannot wait to return... 10/10 "Laughing Monk". The booking process on line was so simple and efficient,no need for phone calls.
