Excellent service from start to finish all staff knew exactly what was on the menu and very friendly the food was amazing well presented the mini trifle was amazing we will be coming back again for afternoon tea

Using only the finest produce and where possible locally sourced and sustainable ingredients, Executive Head Chef Phil Dixon and his brigade pay homage to time-honoured British cuisine, infusing each dish with a contemporary twist and complementing every meal with a selection from the world class wine list, featuring more than 140 bins. The hotel vegetable patch and herb garden is in full use by the chefs and produces year-round fresh crops, including onions, garlic, kale, broccoli turnips, beans, fresh salad, raspberries, gooseberries and much more. Pruned and maintained by the chefs, the vegetable patch is showcased in their dishes.

A traditional Afternoon Tea is served daily in the lounges or taken al fresco on the beautiful sunny terrace. Guests can savour homemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, finger sandwiches and homemade cakes and pastries, served alongside cafetière coffee and Metrodeco fine loose leaf tea. For something a little different, indulge in the gin and tonic afternoon tea, a perfect indulgence to while away a relaxing afternoon.

    Most disappointing. I booked a table for lunch at 1pm via Bookatable. When we arrived a rather condescending receptionist told us they only serve afternoon tea during the week. This is not very clear on the website. We were offered a 'snack' menu to be served in the lounge. We were given a table in the dining room after some discussion. The meal and service were satisfactory - certainly not worth the long journey to get there. Businesses like this deserve to fail.

    The Sandwiches had hardly any filling and what there was lacked flavour, I felt very little care or thought had gone into their preparation

    The Scones were lovely and the best part of the afternoon tea

    Service could have been better, I ordered coffee and was given one small cup whilst my guest who ordered tea was given a whole pot.

    Overall I felt very disappointed as I had been looking forward the afternoon tea as a treat.

    The tea was very nice. However, the room was very cold. It wasn't just my friend and but others commented too.

    I was treating my friend with a voucher given to me. She offered to buy a glass of wine each as we were early. She took the bill at the end and was surprised to be charged £43 for 4 glasses. We only had one each. Clearly a mistake but embarrassing to me. I don't know what the final amount was but even half of £43 seems high to me. A bit petty but thought you should know.

    We were very disappointed. A bill well north of £400 for four people, but not of a standard really. Most specifically, our so-called sirloin of Limousin beef mains were tough and chewy and - having complained - we were told a) "I'll tell chef" and b) "it's a different cut to normal". Subsequent to which we heard no more from chef, and one can't help but wonder what it was we were served, but it was very poor indeed. Then, before desert was done, the restaurant staff started stripping down tables and marching past with armfuls of tablecloths and table linen. We ended up sitting in a room that looked like a bomb site. We felt like an imposition. How to destroy any ambience. There is a pretence of grandeur about the place, and a sense of occasion, but it just doesn't deliver on the promise - and not close to be worth the money.

    Great afternoon tea served in a lovely relaxing environment. However, service was poor with long delays between courses despite only 3 other tables. Also, when I tried to pay the bill discreetly as a gift for my wife I was kept waiting over 10 minutes in the reception area for staff to find the card machine.

    We had a very pleasant lunch, nice food and beautiful surroundings. The house itself is very well maintained and service is friendly and professional.
