Inside a stunningly renovated former rectory featuring floor to ceiling windows, Lanes Hotel is a contemporary setting for seasonal European dishes and traditional British afternoon teas in the picturesque village of West Coker.

The Lanes Hotel menu boasts a selection of British favourites and more contemporary European recipes, using the best seasonal produce. There are premium cuts of steak from the local butcher, as well as fresh fish from the Dorset coast, served with triple-cooked chips. Ballotine of chicken is served with asparagus and truffle with thyme jus, and there are vegetarian dishes including sweet potato and corn stew with cornbread muffin and salad.

Desserts include classics like bread and butter pudding with English custard, and exotic twists such as passionfruit mousse with lime sponge, fruit salad and sorbet. Afternoon teas at Lanes Hotel in Yeovil treat diners to freshly made pastries, sandwiches and loose leaf teas.

Also serving British ciders and speciality beers like oyster stouts, Lanes Hotel is a 13-minute drive from Yeovil Rail Station.

Afternoon tea, lovely sandwiches, cakes could have been slightly more inventive, but scones were lovely, very attentive staff.

The setting was beautiful and staff were very friendly and attentive the afternoon tea was nice however was disappointed at the lack of food provided there were 3 of us dining and when I looked at other people who were also having the afternoon tea who were in pairs they had the same amount of sandwiches and cakes all we had was 2 extra scones which would of been for the third person in our party.
I did think it was a little cheeky to have to pay £15 for the sake of 2 extra scones. All I would suggest is maybe at least 4 sandwiches each and a few more ranges of cakes as I found we were splitting the smallest of cakes into 3 pieces so we could all try them.

Nice food. Steak huge... slightly over priced menu

When we arrived we had asked for no fish as none of us can eat fish but nobody seemed to know anything about this so we had fresh salmon in the sandwhichs which were replaced on request.
Some of the cakes didn't feel as fresh as we had hoped and had maybe been sitting out as were stale
    On the edges
The gluten free option was lovely and nice to see you had made an effort as some places don't
While someone was being shown around the lounge I presume for a wedding they then left the building and left the door wide open leaving the cold breeze to come in which was annoying and when we went to pay there was no one around except two people helping one man over at reception on a computer we could have easily walked out without paying but waited nearly 10 minutes as were other people waiting for drink refill at the bar, all in all our experience was ok, nothing special and service could have been better

Very good service and excellent food. Mix of adults and children and was enjoyed by all!

I booked afternoon tea for three adults and also requested room for a pram if possible. The staff were very kind and helpful. We were given the choice of eating in the restaurant or lounge. We opted for the lounge, making the whole experience informal but friendly. The afternoon tea itself was beautifully presented with a good variety of sandwiches and cakes.
