If you like Moroccan cuisine, but can't quite justify the expense of a plane ticket to enjoy a meal, then simply board your magic carpet and zoom down to London's Cleveland Street, where you'll find La Menara. The décor is cosy with Moroccan lamps, colourful and comfy cushions, Berber rugs and a host of other traditional features. The menu features starters such as the spicy prawn Pil-Pil, main courses including brochettes, couscous and tagines and the desert menu is a kaleidoscope of tempting and authentic treats. Three courses should cost an average of £25 per person.

A group of 13 work colleagues and I dined at La Menara tonight, having booked in advanced and having secured a 15% discount, as mentioned on the restaurant's website. [@]Everything went smoothly at first, the waitresses were very friendly. As the food started arriving, an extra tajine that had not been ordered by anyone of the party was brought to our table, and the manager, [@]came running over, demanding to know who had ordered the dish. Bewildered, we all denied having ordered it, although he insisted rather forcefully, and seemed to blame us for the confusion. When my starter arrived, and I did not hear him announce it, I was told to "pay attention". The rest of the food arrived smoothly, apart from two dishes that arrived 30 minutes later, with no apology. The rest of us were mostly unimpressed with the food presented to us, especially considering the mean portion size and the exorbitant price. Also the toilets, albeit clean, were broken and dingy. This was just the start. When the bill arrived, there were apparently two problems with it: firstly, the stipulated discount had been reduced to 7% without any warning, and we erroneously believed that an extra main course has been added. When we politely enquired in to these mistakes, the owner, [@]came running over again, pushing aside the poor waitress, and started aggressively arguing with us. He would not listen to our reasonings, instead insisting that there were no mistakes and that we had been told previously that the discount no longer applied to our booking (even though this had been re-confirmed 3 hours before attending the dinner). When told he was making us uncomfortable, by shouting, banging his hand on the table, waving his hands and elbows in my face, telling us to "shush", pointing and shoving the bill at us, he seemed suprised that we found him aggressive. After settling the bill, he rushed over to one of our friends, demanding an apology (for what, we are not sure). As we left, he came over, requesting we pay the full service charge, even though
