The name comes from the maiden name of the current proprietors' grandmother, and Kym's is still very much a family affair. This composed, affable restaurant serves hot and spicy cuisine rooted in its regional Chinese heritage - with a dim sum menu for lunch - to a hectic crowd of politicians, ambassadors and locals drawn to its bustling Victoria location.

Outrageously expensive e.g. £7 for a bowl of special fried rice that was the size of a teacup.£12 for a quarter of sparrow (sorry I meant duck) An interminable wait for the 2nd course. A 12.5% service charge which we refused to pay.

Really disappointed. I booked a table for myself and 5 of my dental colleagues to celebrate my birthday. First impressions - the wallpaper was old, dining was cramped and the place was devoid of atmosphere (almost clinical, I thought this would improve once more diners arrived but it didn't). The food was ok. The service was not particularly great. Given that it says on it's website it prides itself in being a family-owned restaurant, I expected to get a more personal service than you would in a chain restaurant. In fact, the service was some of the worst I've received in many a year. They then had the gall to add a non-optional 12.5% service charge to the bill (this had nothing to do with our group size, you'd get it for a party of one!). Perhaps the worst thing that happened which put a real spoiler on what was otherwise a perfect birthday evening out with friends was when we were blocked by staff from leaving the place in front of all the other diners. No explanation as to why other than to be shoving the bill and credit card receipts in our faces. We figured something must be wrong so my friend got out her calculator. Turned out our £118 bill was 5p short. I do not believe there was a need to create such a scene in front of other diners for the sake of 5p which was anyway part of the 12.5% service charge they had added on. It was certainly not our intention to short change them by 5p (if we could afford to dine there, we could certainly afford 5 pence) The whole incident was petty and embarrassing. For the sake of 5p, they lost future custom from 6 people. It's a shame for the restaurant. Next time I need a Chinese fix, I shall be trying [...]a few doors down. I'm sure the food nor service could be any worse.
