Served in an impressive Italian renaissance building dating back to 1872, afternoon tea at King Street Tavern offers a quintessentially British treat in historic surrounds. Winner of Best City Restaurant 2016 at Cheshire Life Food and Drink Awards, King Street Tavern offers a selection of sweet and savoury delights amidst designer fabrics, ambient lighting and an array of locally commissioned art.

The King Street afternoon tea menu begins with a selection of traditional finger sandwiches, including smoked salmon with dill and crème fraîche, Lancashire cheese with onion chutney, and beef with horseradish. Accompanied by your choice of tea, complete your experience with a range of sweet treats. Try the likes of cardamom panna cotta with raspberry jelly, lemon macaron, or chocolate delice with pistachio, as well as classic scones with jam and clotted cream.

Fabulous, glamourous, beautiful decor. Best afternoon tea I've ever had. First rate service plus so many really fresh and delicious sandwiches and cakes. Perfect afternoon with friends.

Had the 3 course lunch menu for £15.95 - really enjoyed it. Had the jam roly poly with custard dessert which you don't see in menus very often. Was puzzled by the amount of fruit they put on top of it, which wasn't needed. Will definitely come back again.

A very enjoyable lunch abit quiet but perfect to get away from. The hustle and bustle. The food was simple but cooked perfectly and elegantly presented. Would recommend to anyone.

We arrived early so had a drink in the lounge whilst waiting. The glass of tap water didn't arrive. Whilst we were having our weak cocktails the manager of the hotel conducted a job interview on the table next to us! No thought of the humiliation for the interviewee and no idea of boundaries with his customers - we couldn't believe it. So on to the meal. The squid and chorizo with orange mayo was tasty, the ham hock terrine the same but the end piece of bread in the basket was going stale. We avoided it and enjoyed the starters. On to the mains. The fish and chips was poor. The chips were barely fried "hand cut potatoes" (means massive) and very pale. The lemon chicken and sweet potato fries was completely dry and had no lemon flavour at all - "would I like some mayonnaise or ketchup"? Really, is this an aspiring restaurant or KFC? A recent meal in Blanchette in London served chicken with a tarragon sauce and the meal at KST was crying out for the same. There were only 2 other tables in use at lunchtime and now we know why. Decor was OK but appears very confused.

We will not be going again and would suggest you avoid.

Very good food and decent portions. I can normally eat everything but not yesterday! Excellent starters and the Halloumi main was very tasty.

The lunch express menu is not an extensive list but of great quality and we very much enjoyed our meal, value at £12.95 for 2 courses.
Waiter Ryan was excellent as i expect all the staff are, the welcome at the door was gracious as well.
Just the one white wine at £25 everything else even more expensive, so just us but perhaps more choice around the figure would be nice, though i expect probably right for upmarket establishment.
