Everything was exceptional however the beer bread and the entrees stood out for me. The care taken over my special requirement was wonderful.

Great feel to the place as soon as you walk through the door. Food was great, the bread was amazing and my favourite dish was the pork shoulder. I'll be back soon to try the tasting menu.

A wonderful experience overall, to celebrate my Mum's birthday. We loved the little 'snacks' with our drinks, and struggled to choose our favourite! Our starters were wonderful, the smoked eel was beautifully smoked, the heritage carrots were stunningly presented and the Stonehurst potatoes were delicious. When it came to the main courses, we all enjoyed our dishes. The Bradgate Fallow deer was divine, with the perfect chocolate sauce. The Halibut was perfectly cooked, and the sauces complimented it brilliantly. The Stonehurst Piglet was a mixed dish. While there was shoulder and belly, there was a lot of fat on the belly for most people's taste. This brings me to the main criticism of all the main courses... there was something on each plate that wasn't mentioned on the menu. On the venison there was a quenelle of green veg (we never did work out what it was), on the halibut there was some pickled cabbage, and on the piglet, there were 5 wood blewit mushrooms. Whilst not an allergy, my husband really doesn't like mushrooms, so it was a dish that disappointed before he started. Once removed, it was a lovely dish, but don't put such significant ingredients on a dish without them being on the menu (they were in fact on the menu on our table, but not the one we'd ordered from). When it came to dessert, the caramelised apple dish was beautiful, if a little sweet overall. The rhubarb flan was another disappointment. The flan itself was nice, but again, another ingredient not listed on the menu was a pale brown cream (definitely not chocolate), and more of an issue was that the poached rhubarb on the plate was inedible as it was still so tough. It needed to be poached for far longer. With coffee, the petit fours were exceptional, both presentation and taste.

The service we received was wonderful. The attention to detail was wonderful, even down to noticing that one of our group ate with a fork in the right hand, so further cutlery was placed that way round.

Perfect evening for a birthday celebration. Huge thanks to the staff who were friendly and attentive and made the evening extra special. The food was delicious, all dietary requirements catered for with the taster menu. (My daughter said best vegetarian meal she had ever eaten). Atmosphere throughout calm and relaxing. Our second time here and it won't be our last. Thank you Johns House

A bit different from expected but excellent overall. First a welcome turn in a small sitting room for drinks and menu perusal--large selection of wines from mid range to Rare and Expensive as to be expected in a Michelin Starred Restaurant. Well pleased to meet an old friend Pedro who was our server and whom we knew from his Olive Branch days over some years.Shown upstairs to one of 2 small dining places both quite busy (good). theTasting Menu we had (courtesy of a Christmas voucher gift from family) was 8/9 courses with coffee and petit fours to end in the sitting room (by choice) and each one was a real delight. We both felt unhurried with excellent service at just the right times. All dishes were unusual and beautifully presented and superb. Will go again, but it is quite a distance for us to travel--hence the location rating.. It's not cheap but still good value for this level of dining: however you can get a lunch menu which is very reasonable (£24-26) 2-3 courses which is really great value.
