This was the second time we had visited John's House and this continues to be our favourite place to eat in Leicestershire. From the moment we entered the cosy building we were made to feel extremely welcome and the three pre-dinner appetisers were a delight.

Once seated at our table upstairs, we were treated to two varieties of freshly cooked bread and a wonderful butter "mousse". For each course, the staff took the time to describe the plate we were about to enjoy (and enjoy we did) and were always in close attendance without being obviously so.

    We shall be back :-)

We went on a Friday lunchtime. Enjoyed the meal thoroughly and the service was excellent. Will definitely go again and love to try the tasters.

Fantastic as you would expect of this type of culinary experience. Casual, comfortable and attentive. High-brow without being too stuffy. Dined for lunch and you only get two choices for each course—which seems limited if you aren't in the mood for them by their descriptions. And if you are used to a range of choices you'll have to get over it. That said, even if it doesn't sound good to you, be assured it will be and you will thank yourself for taking the chance. The combinations often sound odd but the result is beyond compare! When a truly accomplished chef pairs interesting flavors there just isn't a bad choice to be had. Pony up and go all in for the taster menu. We didn't and I will be back to do so. But even having not partaken of it I was too full to even get to the coveted cheese platter. The desert was beyond phenomenal! The service was first-rate. I will most certainly be back.

Visiting a Michelin start restaurant was on my Son's bucket list and he is likely to move to America, so we needed to go and managed to get this lunch booking to suit.
The place itself is great, cosy, clean good atmosphere. i like background music and here it was great - to a point, more variety would be good, maybe some kenny Gee or Norah Jones but variety - it all sounded like Ibiza chill out music.

the lounge is great, but the drinks are limited - we all like cider and there is none to choose from.

bearing in mind the excellent price for the set lunch, the choice could be described as limited, but we all agreed that this was good - too much choice can be cumbersome. don't know what a vegetarian would do though?

Sticking to the food - a generous portion of delicious scicillian olives was a good start and then at the table we had the most delicious bread I have ever tasted with hand churned butter. This bread was so good it set the tone for the opinion of the rest of the food.
The starters were all great, tasty - not too much, well presented and a great appetizer.

The mains again were excellent - the corn fed chicke leg - i have never tasted chicken that good it was sublime and the fish dish, with pearl barley rissoto was excellent.

i could imagine that for big appetites people might be dissapointed but we were all happy with the portion size.

the desserts again sublime, so well constructed and presented

We did feel that the waiter stood at the end of the table throughout the meal was abit offputting

We felt the bill at £200 for 5 was good value for the quality and would definately come back.

    Overall a really nice occasion
