Chicken Caesar salad and a glass of Prosecco was a perfect way to catch up with an old friend at Joe Allen. As always staff were friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. Good food in a congenial atmosphere.

A hidden gem surrounded by the shops and theatres of Covent Garden, Joe Allen is a highly regarded restaurant serving a selection of American and European specialities.
Ideally located for a pre-theatre meal or for dinner after the show, Joe Allen is quietly tucked away on Exeter Street just a five-minute walk away from Covent Garden underground station. Nearby theatres include The Lyceum, Novello Theatre and Duchess Theatre, as well as the Fortune Theatre and Theatre Royal. Joe Allen is also a great destination for a special brunch, lunch or dinner when shopping or staying in one of the hotels around Covent Garden and on the Strand.
Opened in 1977 as a stylish London dining venue for theatre-goers, artists, journalists and performers alike, Joe Allen has a relaxed, casual feel throughout. Today the healthy cuisine and friendly atmosphere attract an eclectic clientele of the West End's young and trendy crowd, romantic couples and families.

Great food, the steak was lovely, the ribs are a bit spicy

The atmosphere is great with an old theatre vibe. As Americans living abroad, we were looking for a taste of home in our pre theatre dinner. We ordered the garlic bread and chips and guacamole as starters and the waitress came back and said they were out of garlic bread. I'm not sure how you run out of garlic bread? Any way, they brought plain bread and some garlic butter (at our suggestion). We had two wait staff, who both were hurried and confused most of the time. I had fish, my husband had hamburger steak, kids had a steak and hot dog. All we're mediocre at best. They messed up our dessert order completely. No apologies or compensation for any of it. We won't go back. Very disappointing.

Friendly unobtrusive service, good food, fun reminiscence of previous regular visits when 'young mums'

Loved this place! Staff were friendly & attentive, great atmosphere, loved the decor & the piano player. Food was delicious, loads to choose from, shared guacamole & tortilla chips to start - freshly made & gorgeous. Offered a top up but saved room for our bbq ribs, which were really tender & very tasty. Enjoyed a carafe of house red to top off a perfect pre-theatre dinner. Really can't fault anything, will definitely be back and will be recommending to friends.

Service was excellent. However, from our table for two I was looking at the behind bar activity which was a little chaotic with cleaning, etc going on and employee discussions, but it was a quick meal with my young nephew, so I didn't complain. I was a little disappointed at the menu I have been coming to your restaurant for over 30 years and a lot of the signature dishes are no longer there.
Our set menu was good but we would have preferred more of a choice. My friends tell me you used to have hamburgers, but we didn't ask. I am a non meat eater so choice was limited.
I would not choose Joes again for a special dinner, but wish you all the best.

Met up with an old colleague who I had not seen for some years. It was quiet enough to have a good conversation, but enough background noise to give some atmosphere. Food, drink and service very good.

Joe Allen's an old and personal favourite haunt of many years, both here and in New York. That is has kept it's character and ambience is always reassuring, and hope it will continue to do so in it's new London venue.
