A hidden gem surrounded by the shops and theatres of Covent Garden, Joe Allen is a highly regarded restaurant serving a selection of American and European specialities.

Ideally located for a pre-theatre meal or for dinner after the show, Joe Allen is quietly tucked away on Exeter Street just a five-minute walk away from Covent Garden underground station. Nearby theatres include The Lyceum, Novello Theatre and Duchess Theatre, as well as the Fortune Theatre and Theatre Royal. Joe Allen is also a great destination for a special brunch, lunch or dinner when shopping or staying in one of the hotels around Covent Garden and on the Strand.

Opened in 1977 as a stylish London dining venue for theatre-goers, artists, journalists and performers alike, Joe Allen has a relaxed, casual feel throughout. Today the healthy cuisine and friendly atmosphere attract an eclectic clientele of the West End's young and trendy crowd, romantic couples and families.

    Staff very good, as usual.
Our table was stuck behind a pillar, which I didn't like.
Food good, although I ordered a vegetable side dish but it never arrived (we weren't charged for it).

Had a fabulous pre theatre dinner. Very atmospheric restaurant. Had the 2 course theatre menu and options were tempting for all 5 of us including the children. Food was delicious. Service was quick and friendly.

The cocktails were brilliant, the hot dogs astounding. Live piano added to a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it and am just booking to go again.

Good ambience with memories of 1970s glamour. But the service falls well short of the mark. Food fine but not special.

There was a family next to me. The Father was on his iphone and his child on an ipad. With the beautiful dim lights of the Joe Allen, the child's ipad was very distracting. I sit infront of computers all day and paid for the discomfort of more screens at dinner. Very disappointing.

Good setting, lovely ambience, not too larger a menu though still a good selection and choice, attentive though not intrusive service, thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal.
    Planning to return soon

We had an amazing meal at Joe Allens. The atmosphere was relaxed, the food amazing (especially the crab and avocado starter salad and rib eye steaks) but most importantly for me the service was excellent.

Great atmosphere, good friendly efficient service, however, the quality of the food did not live up to the quality of everything else. Also the bar is a big feature of JA's in Covent Garden and it needs to be re-stained and varnished as its in a sorry state. I have been going to this restaurant since the 1980's and I haven't been there for a number of years and I think it could do with a little work in certain areas, just a service really.
