Today the healthy cuisine and friendly atmosphere attract an eclectic clientele of the West End's young and trendy crowd, romantic couples and families.

Food was delicious. Wine was overpriced. The piano playing was a highlight and really lifted our evening.

Food, service and general ambience were all excellent. We had not been for at least a year and once again we were not disappointed.
We had the set lunch menu, both look and aubergine starters were great. Not too large, just what a starter should be.
Mains were 3 bean Chili and my husband had the braised steak and mash. Both were delicious, again portions a good size, not too large as some restaurants serve. Too muchfoodona p,ate is so off putting!

Great ambience as ever in this diner. Atmospheric lighting, piano player, great steaks burgers fish cakes & calves liver all recommended

Disappointing if I'm honest. This was my birthday treat for myself and I had set expectations high. My starter of Sweet Potato soup was excellent, but the Sunday Roast Lamb was fatty, tough and leathery and the only redeeming feature was the delicious Mint sauce. Otherwise this roast dinner was a meal that my local 'greasy spoon' cafe does much better for a third of the price. I have had good experiences eating here in the past and have enjoyed the ambience, but today's main meal was a huge let-down.

I've been coming to Joe Allen's in Covent Garden for over 30 years, but to be honest I've been disappointed with the good since the change of ownership and the reduction of the menu. I ordered from the set menu on Saturday - the mushroom soup was OK, but a little sweetish and there wasn't much depth to the flavour. I wasn't offered any bread to go with it, either - something which should be standard in any decent restaurant. I then had the mackerel with what was billed as 'warm German potato salad'. Both were very disappointing - the mackerel like something out of a packet, and the 'potato salad' just a small heap of boiled potatoes. The service was OK.

All excellent: Good meal. Good service. Good table position - request for a corner table had been noted and was duly acted upon.

good atmosphere (diners seemed happy and relaxed), good service
the place hasn't changed at all in 20+ years - which is a good thing
