A hidden gem surrounded by the shops and theatres of Covent Garden, Joe Allen is a highly regarded restaurant serving a selection of American and European specialities.

Ideally located for a pre-theatre meal or for dinner after the show, Joe Allen is quietly tucked away on Exeter Street just a five-minute walk away from Covent Garden underground station. Nearby theatres include The Lyceum, Novello Theatre and Duchess Theatre, as well as the Fortune Theatre and Theatre Royal. Joe Allen is also a great destination for a special brunch, lunch or dinner when shopping or staying in one of the hotels around Covent Garden and on the Strand.

Opened in 1977 as a stylish London dining venue for theatre-goers, artists, journalists and performers alike, Joe Allen has a relaxed, casual feel throughout. Today the healthy cuisine and friendly atmosphere attract an eclectic clientele of the West End's young and trendy crowd, romantic couples and families.

    Wonderful service Great no-nonsense food.

For the first time since 1977, bad service, over crowded restaurant so my chair got bumped all night long, no green menus waiting on the table for us even though I said 2 of us are vegan, waitress did not know what dishes were vegan, slow to take order slow to give bill. No pint glass for beer. No piano music either even though you advertise this! Very small salad for a main course. Wow, no wonder you changed the name from Joe Allen to Joe, as this is not the Joe Allen I know and have been happy with for 40 years.

Great atmosphere, decor and live piano music. Food was very good, particularly the burger and there was a wide variety of drinks.

Joe Allen's is one of the few independent restaurants left in Covent Garden and we are soon to lose it to development which is a real shame.

We have been going for years and always enjoy it. The food is good, it's not outrageously expensive and there's a nice atmosphere.

I hope they find new premises soon!

Excellent as ever. Both service and food was as good as expected.

We had the 2 course set menu with a glass of wine before going to the theatre. Food & service were good; we both had carrot soup then the chopped steak which we enjoyed.

Great relaxed ambience and history, with fabulous decor. Friendly, polite staff and lovely grub! A good menu to suit most people's tastes.
A nice place to impress your party, without trying too hard or breaking the bank.

Usual excellent JA experience. Small problem with starter order being messed up but this was quickly resolved.

Joe Allen's has a great energy about it and is perfect if you're looking for something informal with great food, wine and cocktails. There's a good selection for pescatarians and vegetarians as well as well executed American diner standards, such as baby back ribs, a selection of steaks, a great hotdog and a really good chilli.
