I treated my wife to a birthday meal she will never forget. The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was relaxed & the staff were attentive, helpful & friendly. The complimentary glass of fizz & signed birthday card only added to the experience.

Brought to you by one of the UK’s best-loved celebrity chefs and named in The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants 2015, James Martin’s eponymously-named restaurant is found within Manchester’s glitzy 235 Casino. An on-site ‘meat market’ sees guests step inside a cavernous walk-in meat fridge, which showcases cuts from the menu.

The seasonally-changing menu by James Martin is bursting with produce sourced from tried-and-tested butchers, fishmongers, game dealers, farmers and cheesemakers. Signature flavours might include Thai crab risotto, or coffee-crusted venison loin. Imaginative twists for dessert include white chocolate & whisky croissant pudding, or apple crumble soufflé. Traditional Sunday roasts with all the trimmings are also a firm favourite.

Perfectly matched to the menu, the wine list at James Martin in Manchester features old and New World bins, and experimental mixes are served at the adjoining Vega Lounge cocktail bar.

This classic British restaurant is set on its own mezzanine level, with edgy Great-Northern-warehouse styling including vintage fabrics and artwork, polished girders and exposed brickwork. Find restaurant James Martin just 3 minutes’ walk from Deansgate Train Station. Please note, guests must be aged 18 or over.

From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we felt welcomed by everyone. The decor was inviting and made even better by not being full. All the staff we so helpful, explaining each dish that we had. The quality was superb, with some of the best dishes we have had for a long time. We would love to visit here whenever we visit Manchester. All the dishes looked good, and would have loved to have tried ALL the dishes..Thanks to all the staff ( especially the chef ) for making it an evening to remember...

Food is always top notch, but the service is not really to the same standard.

Food was excellent as usual, but a lack of waitress service I felt let it down slightly, even though it wasn't very busy.

    It was terrible.
    Wine list poor & incorrect
    1 hour wait for starters
    Would never return
Would actively encourage people to never visit.

The food was excellent even though our first choice of both wine and main were not available. The waiter suggested an alternative for the wine but we were left confused about the beef substitution for our main. I feel like if he had explained exactly what we were receiving we would have enjoyed the experience much more. After our starters it seemed like the waiter was far more concerned with the other two tables (a group of 6 and an older couple) that were filled, leaving us feeling fairly ignored. The fact the restaurant was empty was confusing as we waited 3 weeks for our booking giving us the impression the restaurant would be full (Sunday afternoon). The atmosphere was cold (both in temperature and due to the lack of diners) but I cannot stress enough that the quality of food was very high and saved a potentially negative experiance.
Visually the restaurant was very impressive but the quiet music failed to fill the void of atmosphere created by an empty restaurant. After paying up and leaving we went down the street to a bar that also served Sunday lunches that looked a lower quality than what we recieved and at a higher price, but the place was booming. Something is going wrong there, as James Martin's deserves to be full.

I felt like I was in a scene from faulty towers. If it could go wrong it did. Once we were sat down I had to go and find someone after 30mins when we still hadn't had our drinks order taken. Food was slow with 15 mins between steak arriving and the mustard. Waiter opened a new bottle of wine and topped up an existing half full glass with no offer to taste. I have 8 other examples.....Very poor service all round. Food was OK
