Awarded an AA Rosette for its fine Indian food, Jali in Hastings enjoys a seafront setting in the Chatsworth Hotel. The warm red and purple tones of the plush Jali restaurant interior create a relaxing ambience to sample the diverse cuisine found on the subcontinent.

Original starters on the Jali menu include stir fried gin chicken, while a great range of kebabs features the murgh malai, grilled supreme of chicken marinated in cheese, creamy yoghurt and mace. Jali has been complimented for its broad choice of vegetarian dishes like bhutta methi palak, baby corns with fenugreek, cumin and spinach, garnished with toasted sesame seeds and fried garlic.

Jali curries range from the innovative jhinga curry fry, king prawns with potatoes and cashew nuts, to the hot kadai murgh, chicken pieces cooked with kadai spices, onion and peppers. Fragrant naans, rotis and parathas complement a tempting choice of spicy biryanis.

Regularly holding special events including its Biryani Festival and Seafood Bonanza, Jali in Hastings sets a high standard for Indian dining in East Sussex. Close to the town centre, it’s an 8-minute walk from Hastings Train Station.

We were staying at the next door hotel and wanted somewhere for our wedding anniversary meal. The welcome and service were good. We enjoyed our evening but didn't enjoy the food as much as at our local Indian restaurant but that's a question of our personal taste.

Excellent throughout but not necessarily the right location for a special anniversary celebration for a couple. Notwithstandiong that staff were very attentive, service excellent and cleanliness perfect. This does put it above other asian restaurants as standards go, however it has lost elements of style and class that it had in previous years. That was worth the extra costs. I would still re-visit for an evening meal with friends but not for on a 'special' occasion. We enjoyed the meal but it was not memorable.

The food in Jali is always excellent; it's some of the most sophisticated Indian food I've encountered and interestingly out of the usual run of the mill places. The tables are nicely laid out, the tablecloth is crisp and the food is always well presented. Staff are courteous and friendly. Eating at Jali is always a good experience.
