We visited to celebrate a friends 84 birthday, meal was very enjoyable and we loved the mini desert and coffee option.

Tucked away in the historic town of Godalming, Inn on the Lake offers al fresco dining with beautiful lakeside views. Serving a menu of modern British cuisine with a Mediterranean influence, this refurbished gastro pub also comprises a large bar area with wooden and stone floors, nostalgic black-and-white artwork on the walls, and roaring fireplaces, as well as an airy dining area with suede chairs and cosy banquettes.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, the Inn on the Lake menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest available ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at the Inn on the Lake bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

Inn on the Lake in Surrey is a 12-minute walk from Godalming Railway Station.

I have been here to dine and/or just to have drinks a few times in the last couple of months. Really like this place, food doesn’t disappoint either. Inside/outside it is all presented really well. Staff are very good and friendly, never rush you while dining. Good atmosphere and you'll always find a little corner to relax. It gets busy, but the place is big enough to deal with it and you'll find a quiet spot somewhere, I think you wouldn't be disappointed here, so over all I'm happy to recommend.

Poor - food was so overcooked it was inedable but staff seemed uninterested and then ignored us

The starter and main menu was good - puds were a bit disappointing. For example, strawberry and mango Eton mess had no mango!! We went on Father's Day so it was busy and understandably service was a tad slow but we didn't mind as we weren't in a hurry. Staff were friendly and accommodating. One downside is that it was that due to all the hard surfaces it was incredibly noisy and guests were having to shout to be heard - which further added to the noise level - a bit of a vicious circle! We went outside for puddings for a bit of peace and quiet!! Overall good and the Sunday lunch is very good value.

I have used this restaurant before as it is a wonderful location and interior as well as offering a good menu and quality food. My wife and I had booked a table for my Mums 70th birthday as a treat but upon arrival we were shown a table right next to the bar area where there was a large crowd of young men, having a few drinks and being quite loud, which is fine but we had to ask the lady showing us to the table if we could move back as it was far to loud to hear yourself speak! The lady very kindly did this but it would be nice if people would use a little common sense rather than putting the customer in an awkward situation where by they have to ask to move. We settled down and the first waiter was very friendly and polite coming back a few times giving us time to choose our drinks and food, the restaurant was reasonably busy so we expected a bit of a wait but then 2 meals came out but not the other 2 meals, so we waited thinking not to start the other 2 meals are going to follow, so we waited and waited for about 5-10 mins then asked a waiter who said I will find out what happened to them. A short while later they did turn up and the waiter apologized but had no explanation as to what happened then we had to ask for condiments and water which did not come so we ended up asking a different waiter.
My over all view was the staff were polite and friendly and the food was very nice but generally the staff seemed to be going through the motions which unfortunately affected the service.

We wanted somewhere for easter monday when everywhere would be crowded so we booked this for 2.30 and it was perfect. The really busy period was just ending. Service was prompt and very friendly and efficient. We didn't have small children with us but it is clearly a family friendly place and we will come again with grandchildren in the future. Chicken and ham pie excellent. Different areas have a different ambience ie more formal dining, high stools and bars, armchairs and low level tables- something for everyone.
