Can you dine out in your own home? Of course! At the house of Husmor Lisa Rök och Kök diners are treated to honest, home-cooked food, made with ingredients and produce from local farms and vegetables and herbs from the garden. Served by the very same cook who has prepared the food, the living room in which you’ll dine is by the edge of the water in Resarö. Vaxholm is just 45 minutes from central Stockholm.

The creativity in the kitchen spawns seasonally-based dishes, so the ingredients, herbs and preparation methods are likely to vary from visit to visit. From the sea to the lake, expect dishes such as apple tree-smoked Arctic char in a prawn broth with asparagus, lobster butter, smoked shrimps, new potatoes and chilli mayonnaise. From the grill tuck into slow-baked, grilled Roslags pork, grilled in the daily special way or in Lisa’s own way, honey-glazed with Resarö ketchup.

Tasty and stylish, the dishes are garnished with edible flowers from the garden. Small-scale vineyards from across Europe supply the delectable organic wines that Husmor Lisa offers. Lisa’s homemade delicacies can all be taken home with you, as Husmor Lisa’s ketchup, home-smoked products, marmalades and local farmyard cheeses and cold cuts are for sale. The villa dates back to 1905 and was Sweden’s first officially recognized home-cooking restaurant. Up to 20 seated guests can dine at the same time, and during summer this number rises to 40. The house also contains a small cinema, where the younger generations can play to their hearts’ content while watching a spot of TV. Children-friendly menu are always available and Husmor Lisa restaurant certainly welcomes all ages.

A 15-minute walk from Ytterby bus station, Husmor Lisa Rök och Kök can also collect you from the bus station, but this ideally needs to be requested in advance when booking. During the summer, there are also boats that take you to Resarö.

    I ett vackert hus, med utsikt mot vattnet, i en fint möblerad, fint dukat matsal serveras mat som lagas i restaurangköket inrymt i privatbostaden. Vi var glada att få bord, såg fram emot en annorlunda upplevelse. Upptakt och förrätt var utmärkta. Men sedan visade sig problematiken med en ensam entusiast som driver en restaurang, när det drar ut på tiden, cateringverksamhet går före liksom take-away, och beställningar blir hopblandade - trots att vi bara var två gäster den kvällen.
    Vi blev besvikna på huvudrätten (och då var det ändå billigare eftersom det ingick i krogveckan) och för att det tog så lång tid. Uttrycket "ju fler kockar" kan här kompletteras med att det i allafall behövs nog med personal för att kunna göra att gästerna på plats är sedda och omhändertagna. Likaså tyckte jag det var knepigt att vinpaketet jag erbjöds kostade mer än vinerna hade gjort per glas. Visserligen korrigerades detta då jag påpekade det - men det solkade också ner intrycket.
