Another excellent dining experience. Very courteous service, delicious food and no pressure to vacate our table until we were ready. All of these things will encourage us to return in the near future and to recommend this hotel to our family and friends.

    Chaos!
Was kept waiting an hour for our table on arrival. Bar man went to check numerous times, but on being sat down our waiter asked if we were enjoying the bar as the table had been ready the whole time!
Lots of people changing tables and the loud ambience.
Food was good, nothing special, waitress instantly suggested a second portion of fries as soon as she saw how little we had initially between the two of us.
Food took a while to arrive but they did knock off the cost of the drinks as an apology.

The service was polite and friendly. The atmosphere was charming. The starters was mediocre to poor. My king prawns were dry. My husbands' scallops were not as he intended them to be.( he thought they might be sautéed?) the meat was tasty albeit we expected a large portion. The fries were enough for one person. We were two? The wine was good. Although we were honoured a special rate for the chateaubriand. The total charge for the meal was quite expensive. I'm not sure we will return as it wasn't good value all round.

Absolutely fantastic! We had the chateubriand for 2. Perfectly cooked to our liking, with a delicious bernaise sauce.
Service was superb, can't wait to return!

Very pleasant atmosphere. Good service. We both thoroughly enjoyed the chateaubriand and the side salads both had delicious dressings. Wonderful dessert. Definitely would like to return.

We've previously had some great dinners and lunches at Hotel Du vin, and choose to eat here to celebrate my husbands birthday. I booked online for a the specific Chateaubriand offer, and detailed that we were there as a special occasion. When we arrived no-one seemed to know any of this detail. No one spoke to us about the quality of the meal we were about to enjoy, or why they had specifically paired a particular wine with the beef? In short the staff were pleasant but lacked any luster. the table was sticky and everything needed a gentle tug to move it around it around.

The starter was pleasant enough, but nothing special, and the knives which were provided to us for the main course were blunt. Blunt to the point that a portion of my husband's meal shot off the plate as he tried to cut through the steak. Only after i had mentioned the word "birthday" in several conversations whilst the staff were at our table, eventually as we left to go the bar they wished my husband a very quick happy birthday (more of an after thought).

The bar in the hotel was very quiet and had no atmosphere. The barman was completed flustered with the two people he already had sat in there, and lacked a lot of things he might actually need in his bar. We asked to see the cigars (they were in a different room), (they were all dry despite being in the humidor), we asked for a cigar cutter (apparently they had all been stolen), so the barman had to take it away to get someone to use a sharp knife.. he wasn't allowed to have one in the bar.? We took our drinks and went to the outdoor snug, dirty ashtrays adorned the tables, no fire had been lit, and although the snug had plenty of candles none of them had been lit. Not a very appealing place. It lacked any form of cosines that the lovely hut was crying out for.

in our opinion we will not be returning and shall not be recommending it to anyone. it is such a shame that what used to be the jewell of Winchester has fallen steeply downhill.
