The service and food were exceptional. From the entrance to the bar to the restaurant the staff really excelled themselves. As for the chocolate tart that was just to die for – well done.

We all enjoyed our luncheon. The Menu was varied and the service was very good. The food was beautifully prepared and presented. As a Birthday treat it came up to expectations.

The Bar area was cold (the external temperature was only 8C) and the fire remained unlit until we complained how cold it was. The length of time between sitting in the bar and being asked foe our drinks order was lengthy and it took even longer to get the flutes for the champagne that was ordered. We were presented with the A La Carte menu from which we made our selection. The fact that I had booked a 'special deal' of a cocktail plus two course lunch was completely ignored and yet the reception area were aware of the booking! as we had to provide details on arrival. It begged the question as to why bother to book!

I raised the issue of the booking when I was about to leave with the Receptionist and, I assume , the House Manager but I fear the matter fell on deaf ears. I have tried to call the Hotel to discuss the matter but the only number advertise is for a recorded message relating to a booking for the restaurant.

As I said in my introduction the food and service for lunch was very good and my family enjoyed themselves but that is no substitute to the frustration experienced

The two course meal plus cocktail was excellent value and lovely food. The menu had great options and we had a most enjoyable outing. Staff, food, ambiance were all excellent, we would definitely go again.

This is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service. We had a cocktail in the bar first which was very good indeed
The starter we had was mackerel and beetroot which was beautifully presented. and very tasty. The main course was a chicken dish which was very disappointing indeed. It tasted more like reformed.
The staff were very good and took this off the bill but is was a disappointing evening as we had come all the way from Southampton

The meal was good but not excellent. The service was very good. There was only one cocktail on offer and quite frankly I would have preferred a glass of white wine as it contained my sugar intake for a week! The starters were good and different. The sharper steak knives requested for the main course improved the experience immeasurably especially as the flavour was so good. The chocolate tart dessert, in my view, was too solid and heavy although the the flavour was good and the almond pastry was excellent. However, there is one thing that really winds me up in restaurants and that is the addition of VAT! VAT should be included in the price. I detest this practice. Even though the lunch was a reasonable price, I expect all prices to include VAT.

We have had many excellent meals at Hotel du Vin but yesterday was not good: part of our order was forgotten; the steak was dry and tasted as though it had been coated in vinegar; the bread was stale and it took over 25 minutes for 3 sorbets to arrive . On the basis that this was a bad night we will try again but it was unfortunate that this was my son's 18th birthday.

Service was appalling to begin with - had to wait 45 mins for any wine at all. They couldn't find either of the two bottles we had requested as the sommelier had called in sick. Food was good but main course delayed given the problems with the wine. However the cheese was exceptional and the service given by Liam during the latter part of our meal was fantastic and they didn't charge for any of our drinks. So overall the situation was rescued but if it had not been for Liam would seriously consider not returning. Given the hotel's name and focus the staff really need to do better when the sommelier isn't available.

Interesting menu and excellent value. The smoked mackerel starter was a good choice and a generous serving. The sea bass was also cooked to perfection and well presented. The accompanying cocktail was good but a little sweet. The staff were friendly and attentive. The ambience at Hotel du Vin is always enjoyable.
