Situated in an area on the South Bank historically known as the ‘Larder of London’, Hornimans at Hays serves tasty British food in a warm, homely environment, and boasts an al fresco terrace for riverside summer dining. The pub sits on the site of a tea warehouse owned by Frederick Horniman, a famous tea dealer, and the décor features friezes depicting his travels to Africa, India and the Americas.

With Nicholson’s pubs first established in 1873, the fleet has become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality stock of ales. Constantly-featuring recipes are bolstered by a seasonally-changing range of specials on the Nicholson’s menu, with favourites including home-breaded chicken Kiev, or a sharing cottage pie. Also enjoy old-school desserts and nourishing breakfasts.

At the Nicholson’s bar, expect to find 25 guest ales changing with the seasons, a resident cask master, and carefully-matched ale and food pairing suggestions. Compiled with equal care, the Hornimans at Hays drinks list features easy drinking wines, artisan soft drinks and classic cocktail mixes.

Hornimans at The Hays in Southwark is a 7-minute walk from London Bridge Tube Station.

We had made a reservation online and requested a table with a view of the television for the football game. We arrived to find another customer had taken the paper with our name and table number and moved it. When we complained we were given another table with a poor view of the television. When I spoke again with the manager he said he had done all he could do, leaving us with a terrible view despite reserving several days in advance. Very disappointing service. And to top it off the fish and chips weren't that great either. Nice looking bar. Terrible service.

The food was average. However have a booked table upstairs was perfect. We were away from the crowded bar below and were able to order drinks from the bar upstairs. The service was good too.

This lovely riverside pub, in Hays Galleria, close to London City Pier serves excellent pub food from a Nicholson menu (familiar from plenty of other pubs around London) at middle range prices but, if you get a good seat, well worth the prices.
We booked in advance and got a window seat upstairs. Upstairs you get waiter service whilst downstairs you get bar service.
The food was delicious and the portions large. We had a starter plate, the thick cut gammon, the ultimate burger and fish and chips. The starter was fine for three people - although it was very slow coming - but there was no delay with the mains. The gammon was definitely thick cut, the burger was two quarter pounders with cheese bacon and onion rings (very impressive) but the most generous portions were when the fish and chips came. These days cod portions seem to be tiny, but at the Horniman we seemed to have cod piled high. All the food was beautifully cooked and well presented.
After that, we didn't have room for the lemon tart that I had my eye on, just another round of drinks and coffee. All in all a very pleasant two hour Easter lunch.
Service good. Food excellent. Prices good. Ambience excellent.

The downside : I had to speak to 3 people before we were told where our table was.
It was rather tight with the seating. Had problems squeezing through.
Our dinner was finished by 8. Unfortunately and sadly 3 of the dessert were sold
    out. Big let down
Good : The food was good. Tasted brilliant. We will definitely come again
Exceptionally good : Our waitress (sorry :-( didn't get her name), she was GOOD. Every wish was seen to. Always with a smile. Job well done.
