Beautiful restaurant. Extremely comfortable. Lovely decor. The food was beautifully presented & tasted wonderful. The only downside was in that the waiting staff didn't use their initiative! We ordered the sirloin steak & normally once this is ordered steak knives are then provided or Chef puts them on the dish before presenting. We had to request steak knives & then had to wait about five minutes until they arrived! All the time our meal was cooling down!!! Apart from that the whole experience was wonderful. This was a celebration birthday meal for my husband.

I booked afternoon tea for three on Sunday and ordered at £5.95 per person on the online preference form. However when we were served the waitress asked which sandwiches we would like . I ended up with a bill for £51.+ for some very tiny dried up sandwiches with some creamy cake pieces and the scones. Because it was a treat i could not question the bill there and then and found it itemised as' themed tea. ' It was extremely overpriced, not what was ordered and ended up as a huge bill . We were there nearly two hours as the service was very slow and the sandwiches arrived a long time after the tea had been finished. All in all very disappointing and awkward.

We got married at the Stone manor and had our reception there. We have since been back on several occasions to celebrate our anniversary. It USED to feel a special place with attentive staff and we were made to feel like valued customers. This was our first visit now it is Hogarths. Much has changed. The dining room and decor has a fresher more modern feel. That is where the positives end. The staff were not as professional and the food and service not what we would expect for the prices charged. The Seabass and the Sirloin were both excellent but let down ,The pancetta green beans ( charged £3.50 as an extra) were plain string beans which had been nuked in a microwave. Our cold deserts were served on warm plates just out of the dishwasher, we ordered coffee which was just forgotten about. When I paid the bill no change was brought, just an assumption that I wanted to leave the balance as a tip. Much has changed and little of it for the better. The only member of staff who appeared to be the same was the pianist in the bar area. However even he seemed to be fed up, or trying to test how ridiculous a situation he could create as he inexplicably played amongst others, the theme tune to Grange hill, Blockbusters and even Thomas the tank engine. We will dine out on our memories of how it used to be rather than return to Hogarths.
