Experienced head chef Richard Hewat is behind the Scottish and French inspired cuisine at Hewat’s Restaurant in Edinburgh. With Aberdeen Angus steaks and fresh Scottish seafood, a decadent menu is served in the distinctive, chandelier-lit dining room, with the luxurious private area ideal for special occasions.

Full of skilfully crafted dishes, the Hewat’s menu offers starters of pan-fried black pudding on haggis risotto and king scallops with smoked salmon. Tempting main courses deliver roast tenderloin of boar with morel mushroom sauce, and mackerel and clams with spinach and crab mash.

Wickedly indulgent desserts at Hewat’s Restaurant include rhubarb crème brulee with shortbread, or caramelised lemon tart with raspberries and crème fraiche. The gourmet cheese board features Scottish specialities like Isle of Mull cheddar, served with homemade oatcakes.

A large selection of Chilean and South African wines join classic Europeans, with Hewat’s also offering an impressive choice of whiskies and liqueurs. Hewat’s Restaurant is around 8 minutes’ drive from Edinburgh city centre.

    Excellent food and friendly, welcoming service, as always, from Hewat's. Their 'early bird' menu offers incredibly good value with a fair choice of starters and mains and we were not disappointed by our choices. They also serve tasty bread and butter to nibble on and a carafe of iced tap water is provided without having to be requested. This restaurant continues to be a real gem.

    Food and drink was excellent, we've both taken notes of what we drank so we can buy for home, and the food was rich and very flavour-full; also mention beautifully presented. Great service topped the night off. We had to book our Valentine's meal a day early but we're very happy we chose to come to you.

    All the dishes were really tasty and good. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not have our first choice of wine, but the second choice was good.

    This restaurant is just fantastic. We have been on a number of occasions and always enjoyed it. Last night we had a group of 7 for dinner before a concert at the festival theatre. The food was excellent as was the service. All our friends were suitably impressed. The sea bass was the winning dish of the night.
