Informal yet ultra-fashionable, Harvey Nichols Second Floor Brasserie showcases supreme modern European cuisine. This elevated spot offers views over the city, and a black lacquered bar offers a fashionable selection.

A diverse mix of flavours, the Harvey Nichols menu spans from eclectic ‘little plates’ and wholesome bento boxes, to classic main courses. An array of exciting flavours can be found in the likes of tandoori monkfish with sticky mango rice, or pea and mint cannelloni with smoked feta, whilst hearty classics include a succulent signature HN burger, or Atlantic-caught cod with chunky chips.

Innovative twists for dessert include a salted caramel pot au chocolat with hazelnut shortbread, and Vimto summer pudding with clotted cream. Chic and sultry seasonal cocktails are served at the Second Floor Bar, and delicious offerings for brunch include streaky bacon and maple syrup waffles, and classic eggs benedict.

Set in one of Manchester’s most iconic buildings, Harvey Nichols Brasserie is a 6-minute walk from Manchester Victoria Rail Station.

    Loved celeriac soup.

    Loved spiced plum soufflé.

    Very tender beef fillet.

Excellent service from start to finish.

Could use lighter music (classical/jazz/light pop) on a lower volume.

We visit every day when we're all together in Manchester, typically for breakfast, and we love going to Harvey Nichols in general.

Some of the waiters/hosts recognize us and are very friendly to us. We always feel welcome at Harvey Nichols.

The staff were visible and approachable, but not intrusive. The food was delicious and plentiful. The refillable coffee was also delicious and the tea was lovely. The atmosphere was calm, sophisticate and clean.

Upon our arrival my friend and I were a little early but the friendly concierge were able to accommodate us and our coats were taken - great start! We had a table in the window which was nice but, despite it being a cool day, the sun was shining and unfortunately was shining directly through the window on us making us uncomfortably hot even though the blind was partially closed. When we spoke with the waiting staff they were most accommodating and said they would try to turn the air-conditioning up - we were most appreciative! We enjoyed our champagne afternoon tea - the tea was lovely as were the cakes! Great presentation and lots of options! The sandwiches weren't overly flavourful and the prawn cocktail was a little watery but all edible! Unfortunately we had to ask several times for the bill and subsequently, the card machine, which meant we had to rush whilst paying so didnt notice a 10% discretionary service charge had been added to the bill without asking. I'm not against giving a tip, the staff were, generally, very pleasant and helpful and the experience, as a whole, was a positive one. I am disappointed that I wasn't asked - it was assumed I would be happy to leave a tip.

We frequent the menu quite regularly, especially when the set menus are on. We have always thoroughly enjoyed the food and service and agreed it was excellent value for money.

Last night however, when we attended and had the valentines weekend set menu, regrettably we left disappointed for a number of reasons:

Firstly, we arrived on time 8pm and we're seated on a very small table in very close proximity to another table. We had requested a window seat as we always do at point of booking so that was a bit disappointing but we could see the restaurant was busy so we didn't make a fuss.
Secondly we ordered the mussels starter which was labeled as to share. We would have preferred to try 2 different starters but we were advised by the waitress it was only yo share. So we went ahead with that. When it finally came about 9 pm after an hour of waiting it was to separate plates which in no way resembled a dish to share. So on reflection we could have had 2 different starters.

We ordered a bottle of wine after our first drinks and we had to ask a second waitress abut 20 minutes later when it still hadn't arrived. It seemed our original waitress had gone on a break as she returned some time later when we were ordering deserts.

Then with the mains I ordered the lobster thermidor (which was a £15 supplement). I was more than happy to pay this for what I thought would be a special dish. I was disappointed when it arrived and even more so when I had finished. It was very small and there was very little meat on it. It was saved with a very small bowl of fries and salad which left me still feeling hungry.

Overall we were very disappointed especially as we had always come away raving about the food, service and value on previous visits. We did not the feel the meal or service warranted the bill for £139 at all.

We would probably think twice before visiting again which is a shame as it has been one of our favourite restaurants in recent years.
