A real family favourite thanks to its packed menu and cosy feel, Harvester The Old Trooper treats diners to a range of traditional home-style recipes. A full bar selection includes beer, wine and spirits for adults, while the dessert menu is filled with tempting treats.

From its succulent grill selection to the celebrated unlimited salad bar, the Harvester menu is packed full of wholesome flavours for the whole family. Rotisserie chicken cooked in a secret blend of spices is available alongside tender smoked ribs marinated in signature BBQ sauce, while smaller tapas-style dishes are perfect for sharing, with options like spicy crackerjack prawns, and grilled chorizo with padron peppers. There are generous combo platters, juicy steaks, well-stacked burgers, and a great salad selection with premium additions.

All kinds of sweet treats are served on the dessert menu at this Harvester in Chester. The sundae selection loads real dairy ice cream with toppings like warm chocolate fudge brownie, raspberries and honeycomb pieces, while classic British options like Bramley apple pie sit alongside international twists like key lime pie. From the bar, there are world beers, spirits, and speciality soft drinks for the kids.

An easygoing eatery with a relaxed ambience and cosy feel, Harvester The Old Trooper is 7 minutes' drive from Chester Rail Station.

Friendly staff but salad bar very poor. No basics like cucumber, onion or pasta. Just sweet corn and bean mix which was horrible.

Busy but efficient service and good menu choice. Glazed salmon and dirty rice was delicious and different. Mixed grill was spot on. We arrived early with one less person. Table was ready and it was not a problem

Never been to a harvester for about 25 years. The dining rooms etc were very nice but found the food to be of a very basic canteen type experience and not overly cheap for what it was although the service was good.

The restaurant was very cold, even though the heating was on. When we asked if the heating was on they came and checked the rads and they were hot. It was a cold evening but a restaurant should be warmer. Some of the salad bar was ready for the bin, also I should have had grilled watermelon not plain watermelon. All in all a dissapointment. We have been many times to the Trooper and it has put us off.

The welcome was exceptional. Service was excellent and very quick. A enjoyable evening in a welcoming pub.

Warm welcome on first entering the establishment, we had made a booking so we're able to be seated immediately, and advised to help ourselves to the very inviting salad bar. Looking around we noticed the lovely open fire which made everywhere seem very homely. The Christmas tree and decorations were also visible.
Our waiter was a very pleasant young man who got our drinks very quickly and on return asked what we would like to eat. The meal was excellent, the steak cooked to perfection. The waiter appeared whilst we were eating to check that everything was OK.

We booked a table for 3 at 1.15pm on a Sunday and although we were early we were given a choice of tables and sat by the window.
There was a smell of urine in the corner where my wife sat and I ordered the fish and chips, my wife had scampi with a jacket potato and my daughter a veggie burger.
We all had a salad portion as the salad bar is a feature of this restaurant..
The service was reasonable my fish was a good size ,but my wife struggled to eat her scampi and we saved 2 pieces for the dog.
We didn't have a dessert as we were full and my wife didn't feel too good. Later she suffered a bad bout of sickness and has been in bed since.
I cannot confirm beyond doubt that it was what she ate , but the possibility is there.
