Perched on Torquay harbourside, there are few more idyllic spots to enjoy dining than at Harbour Kitchen. A trio of restaurateurs at the helm boast a history working at various Michelin-starred restaurants.

Sourced from the local area, the food is exceedingly fresh, seasonally-changing and affordable. Everything on the Harbour Kitchen menu is exciting and has a contemporary twist: snack on lobster wontons or monkfish scampi, before getting started with a soft Scotch egg with gribiche sauce.

Follow starters with a lusciously tender flat iron steak with braised beef cheek, while hake with crab, samphire and cep cream gives a nod to the neighbouring ocean. Intricate and innovative desserts such as maple syrup crème brûlée with bacon and white chocolate cookie are sure to appeal.

Other perks include a tasting menu, Sunday lunch menu, and a substantial cocktail and wine list. Harbour Kitchen in Devon has an understated, fresh design with a touch of the nautical about it, and seating outside for those who choose to dine al fresco. Torquay Train Station is a 20-minute walk away.

    We had the 7 course taster menu and it was a real treat with everything cooked to a high standard and the sea bass course was everyone's favourite. The service was attentive and friendly at all times. The meal will be remembered with pleasure for a long time to come.

    We started with a couple of cocktails in the bar! The atmosphere was really cool, loved the decor and the music complimented the vibe.
    We went upstairs for our dinner and again every little detail like the octopus artwork on the wall and the cooper piping throughout really made for an enjoyable experience!
    The starters we had were to die for, the salmon sashimi was amazing and the wasabi nearly blew our heads off which we loved!
    The duck breast prosciutto was also a stand out and we complimented the meal with a bottle of Chablis! Divine!
    The turbot and plaice for main course were perfect sizes and the presentation was impressive! Really outstanding flavours although at this point we were getting full.....we still managed to fit in an affrogato and a couple of brownies, it would have been rude not to!
    Overall amazing and we will definitely be back the night time we are in town!

    The Mussels were superb, juicy & Plump and very tasty! The others really enjoyed their Palice & I enjoyed my seafood risotto!! Great service

    A bit on the pricey side. Great food, Good service I will return. Some of our party where still hungry after ordering the beef so choose wisely or definitely have a starter!!

    The restaurant is beautifully set out and decorated, it has a very clean and hygienic feel to it which is a great first impression.
    The staff are welcoming and friendly.
    Whilst waiting for our table we had a drink at the bar and looked at the menu to order ahead as the waiter had advised.
    The menu is attractive and has a good selection of starters and main courses, however they are very fussy dishes that are not clear what exactly you will be getting. The starter of goats cheese and beetroot was lovely as was my husbands of curried makeral. All dishes are well presented and piping hot which I like as it shows the food is freshly cooked! The main that I had was a burger and scallop, prawn Thermidor with fries. The Thermidor was lovely and the. Burger extremely fresh,however there were far too many flavours going on and mixed together this somewhat spoilt what would have been two very good separate dishes. I only chose this option as I couldn't work out what was in most of the others! The waiter advised there were no buns available for the burger and did I mind , I didn't but when served it had been put into two slices of griddles bread spoiling the effect of it being served on a wooden board as there simply was no room to cut my food and eat it.
    My husband had goose which he found outstanding. The portions are very small but are extremely rich in so many flavours so you do end up feeling full.
    We had one soft drink, a prosecco, two pints of lager and one whiskey and the final bill came to over £72.00 which is very expensive for the two courses each and the overall feeling that the chef is just trying too hard with too many flavours and textures going on in each dish.
    Not somewhere I will want to visit again gastronomically but lovely surroundings and a fabulous view of Torquay harbour.
