Rated one of the UK’s top 5 Middle Eastern restaurants by The Telegraph, Hanam’s Kurdish & Middle East Restaurant in Edinburgh serves an array of Halal meat and vegetarian dishes, with traditional music and dancing. You can bring your own alcohol and smoke authentic shisha pipes on the spacious terrace.

Boasting views over Victoria Street and Grassmarket, Hanam’s restaurant prepares its cuisine using traditional Kurdish and Persian cooking methods. Speciality shish kebabs sizzle on the charcoal barbecue, while familiar favourites like chicken biryani are given a Kurdish twist.

Big meat dishes include Lebanese sausage with basmati rice, and the spicy gulf chicken sabseh. The Hanam’s menu features an array of indulgent desserts, with Persian saffron and cardamom ice cream, baklawa and spiced Middle Eastern walnut cakes.

Owner Jamal ensures the Hanam’s experience is lively and authentic, with a vibrant dining room and a well-stocked dry bar serving non-alcoholic beers, wines and cider. Hanam’s is a 12-minute walk from Edinburgh Train Station.

The lamb fillet and chicken fillet kebabs are unreal! All the food is amazing...and byob is a bonus.

We went for my girlfriends birthday, mostly because she loves to do shisha after dinner so thought this would be a nice treat. Dinner was excellent which is a surprise as we were really only there for the shisha however we phoned to book shisha and they claimed this wasn't possible. When we finished our dinner they said there was no room to go outside for shisha as it was fully booked! It lead for my girlfriend to be disappointed and it was annoying as we tried to book it early in the week!

However for food, this is great and the staff are very friendly.

It was a good work lunch celebration which everyone enjoyed. Food was good, service quick and friendly. Fact that the restaurant was BYOB only could have been better advertised.

Lovely meal - it was nice to try something different! And being a BYOB is a bonus as you get to drink what you want and like so don't have to try the unknown. It's only 30p per bottle charge for this.
Service was very quick and staff were friendly and helpful. They did bring one meal wrong so we had to wait for this to be recooked- though they were very quick in bringing this out.
It's reasonably priced too - about £96 for 4 of us and we all had a 2 course and took our own drink.

Ambience suroundings and staff was great. Food was mediocre. Way to much rice and not enough lamb as my main meal. ..alot of wasted food kn all plates for our liking...far too much bread for only 3 people and to top it all off from ordering to table was literally only 10 minutes. Which suggests to me that the food was reheated and not made from fresh.....a comment one of my friends made was "oh that was quick!"....a very disappointed customer. Also felt we were being rushed out the door...we booked for 5:30...ordered food 6:10...and from 7:15 were almost putting the bill on the table saying they needed it back by 8pm for next booking
