I visit this Restaurant often. The food is always excellent with a wide choice of dishes for meat eaters and vegetarians. The service always comes with a smile and the BYOB is a bonus.

Rated one of the UK’s top 5 Middle Eastern restaurants by The Telegraph, Hanam’s Kurdish & Middle East Restaurant in Edinburgh serves an array of Halal meat and vegetarian dishes, with traditional music and dancing. You can bring your own alcohol and smoke authentic shisha pipes on the spacious terrace.

Boasting views over Victoria Street and Grassmarket, Hanam’s restaurant prepares its cuisine using traditional Kurdish and Persian cooking methods. Speciality shish kebabs sizzle on the charcoal barbecue, while familiar favourites like chicken biryani are given a Kurdish twist.

Big meat dishes include Lebanese sausage with basmati rice, and the spicy gulf chicken sabseh. The Hanam’s menu features an array of indulgent desserts, with Persian saffron and cardamom ice cream, baklawa and spiced Middle Eastern walnut cakes.

Owner Jamal ensures the Hanam’s experience is lively and authentic, with a vibrant dining room and a well-stocked dry bar serving non-alcoholic beers, wines and cider. Hanam’s is a 12-minute walk from Edinburgh Train Station.

We were greeted in a friendly manner by the staff, who were attentive and made our dining experience very pleasurable. The restaurant has a relaxed ambience and is tastefully decorated, in warm colours, so pleasing to find somewhere that is not another shade of beige. Our starters were delicious and comprised of olives, hummus shwarma, and aubergine purée served up with a couple of light crispy Nan breads. My wife's sea bass and salad was magnificent. I enjoyed chicken breast kebab with the special Iranian pomegranate rice and an okra side dish. Our guest had the delicious minced chicken thigh kebab Iranian style with an okra side dish. Two Nan breads were also provided but we could not touch them, as the main courses were so generous and delicious. The restaurant provides a good selection of alcohol free wines. We brought our own wine and beers and for all three were charged corkage of £1:50 in total. It was a pity that we felt so full we could not entertain the fabulous dessert menu. It does however give us a great excuse for a return visit!

Fabulous food in generous portions. If you haven't tried Kurdish and Middle Eastern food, we would highly recommend this restaurant as the place to try it.

We go to this great restaurant on a regular basis. The service is always very friendly and efficient and you are made to feel most welcome. The food is fantastic and the BYOB (at 30 pence corkage) is a bonus.

Friendly and helpful staff. Great choice of good quality tasty dishes. Have and will continue to recommend this restaurant to my friends. Could ditch the mozzarella from the cheese boreks, try adding more fete or recotta and some dried apricot.
