Nestled on the fringes of Dartmoor National Park, the Great Western at Bovey Castle epitomises tranquillity with its rural setting. Guests can enjoy classic British food in a relaxed dining room that recalls the allure of the restaurant’s Art Deco origins.

The Great Western menu features locally produced, exceptional food, all of which is beautifully presented. Scallops with an emulsion of cockles, clams and oyster are a spectacular starter while the roast suckling pig with confit turnip and spiced quince makes for a sumptuous main course. The impressive wine list at Bovey Castle near Newton Abbot is filled with meticulously sourced bottles.

A delectable array of desserts includes warm banana soufflé with corn ice cream and malt toffee sauce, and a creative chocolate tree stump with lime and cardamom.

Guests can pre-arrange transport to this fine dining restaurant in Devon with the hotel. Newton Abbot Train Station is a 40-minute drive from Bovey Castle.

All a little over rated I'm afraid - sandwiches were just average and that's being generous - to be fare the scones were good but I've had better the sweets were concentrating to much on looks and not on taste - area were we were seated was close to the corridor and a door way causing noise and drafts regularly removing any positive ambiance - an overall disappointing experience which I will find hard to recommend to others. On a positive note the staff were charming and attentive.

Well first thing is what a magnificent building in a fabulous setting!, my wife wanted to treat her 85 year old Mother so what better than Afternoon Tea at Great Western, Bovey Castle. We arrived a little early so made ourselves at home in the large lounge with its welcome log fire. We were welcomed in the restaurant by the very attentive staff and was soon put at ease about my Gluten Free requirements, the food was superb all round with a lovely range of teas available. We're definitely coming back this Spring/Summer, can't wait!

Loved the attention to detail having the ribbon around the sandwiches with bovey castle on! Also on the mocha cake the printed bovey castle logo in edible gold!

Service was very good, staff were approachable and knowledgable with a very positive attitude, however, the food was most disappointing and really not worth the the £120 paid for three afternoon teas, this was a special celebration and it was so poor we will never return.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Excellent service. Lovely afternoon tea., Allowed us to take a 'doggy bag' of what we had not managed for our tea. Beautiful fire and Christmas tree.

Sandwich bread could have been a touch fresher and interestingly the spiced jam didn't work as well as strawberry with the scones. Macaroons were delicious, as was the jasmine tea
