Formerly a fully functioning gym and the venue for the first National Olympic Games in 1866, German Gymnasium is now a sparkling representation of a European Grand Café. Dine on the mezzanine level overlooking the main floor, or at the chic Meister Bar.
The German Gymnasium menu is German-inspired and includes a selection of Mittel-European dishes, though is by no means limited to it. A more formal dining experience on the mezzanine level, the restaurant offers the likes of veal schnitzel with lingonberry compote, and whole slow-roast free-range goose with braised red cabbage.
Traditional desserts include Black Forest gateau, apple strudel with vanilla sauce, and a selection of farmhouse cheeses with fig mustard. Find the Meister cocktail bar upstairs, and sample one of the intricately designed foam cocktails, or a light bite from the bar’s menu.
German Gymnasium in King’s Cross offers 3 different dining areas, each with accompanying menus. This highly original creation from D&D is situated opposite the entrance to St Pancras International Station.

The only valid reason to book is because the location is really special . Forget food and service . Touristic .

Nice place, nice people. Well managed, friendly staff. Food is not so special and a bit expensive but the atmosphere is the right one for a friendly dinner.

Excellent food and service, attentive staff and lively atmosphere, just what you want on a Friday night. Oh, and the real star was the building, spectacular.

The food was excellent, if anything the portions were to big. The staff were friendly and helpful and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Excellent service. Amazing building interior - seems to be a converted warehouse. Good cocktails. The meal was satisfying - the two of us shared a whole duck, which was tender and perfectly cooked. The one thing I would say I was less happy about was the vegetables, which didn't come particularly hot. However the German Pinot Noir we had with the meal was excellent and the staff were always attentive. Not cheap, but good value for the service and the quality of the food.
