A lovely afternoon tea starting with an amouse bouche; a selection of rolls and savouries, cream scones and dainty cakes. There were a number of loose teas to choose from served along with extra hot water.

A majestic setting on the corner of George Street and Charlotte Square, George Street Grill & Samovar Lounge pair classic European recipes and locally-sourced Scottish produce. Inspired by traditional grand European cafes and brasseries, enjoy a wide range of delicious classical dishes from brunch through to afternoon tea and dinner, and a stylish late night bar for drinks and cocktails.

Offering a luxurious spin on afternoon tea and taking its name from an ancient Russian teapot, the Samovar Lounge showcases a dedication to the art of tea brewing. Sip rare teas from delicate mismatched china, and indulge in stands of sandwiches, scones and hand-crafted cakes.

For brunch, sample a dish of seared foie gras, duck eggs and toasted brioche, or a traditonally-inspired croque-monsieur. Tender Scottish lamb with shallots, capers, lemon and olive oil leads the George Street Bar and Grill menu, while hearty roast dinners lead the Sunday lunch menu.

Boasting a stunning interior to match the surrounding area’s trendy status, George Street Bar and Grill is a contemporary and elegant all day venue. Homemade scones, sweetly-sticky preserves and thick clotted creams lead the sumptuous afternoon tea, together with a selection of teas, coffees or champagne. Don’t forget to try the affogato: a true Italian classic – steaming hot espresso poured over the finest vanilla ice cream, and you can even add a dash of liqueur.

Edinburgh Castle is just a 10-minute walk from George Street Bar and Grill in Edinburgh, while the pretty Dean Gardens are an 8-minute drive away.

Arrived at 12.15pm for booking at 12.30pm,doors were still locked and nobody about.went to the Roxburgh hotel around the corner to enquire and they took us through their entrance to the Bar&Grill. We were seated in the bar area when I had booked for the restaurant.we had to ask for drinks, water, sauce and mayo, steak was very dry.We were not asked if we enjoyed the meal or not, no contact with waiter at all.

As ever the staff were very welcoming & attentive withot being intrusive(3rd time bringing friends for afternoon tea here!) We had a window table(I'd asked for this & appreciated them accomodating this request), quite nice on a dull day to be somewhere warm & watch the weather from a place of comfort! We chose the vegetarian option; having been twice before with meat eating friends I was unsure how the menu might differ. There's a great tea menu & getting a pot of hot water to top up with is thoughtful & appreciated.I knew the sweet pastries would be delicious & they were - with a good selection too.The scones were warm & full sized (perhaps too generous in size!?) The savoury sandwiches/roll selection suffered a little..grated cheese & tomato (meant for a soggy roll) chopped hard boiled egg & tomato in a delicate pastry case lacked some seasoning.(Knowing how good the tiny salmon blinis & coronation chicken tartlets could be i felt this wasnt up to their usual standard).BUT we werent there to play Masterchef judges; it was a relaxing catch up in a soothing setting with treats make ing it a lovely afternoon with friends. One soggy mini roll does not detract from an enjoyable experience.

Hi. Nice welcome in the bar. But it took too long to get my wife's easy drink, the barkeeper was not trained.
Somehow lack of routine from the student waiter, but did his best.
The food was nice, but I would like the waiter to be more clear in his advise of wine fit for the food.
