    The food and service are excellent. Lamb shank delicious and fish also excellent. Servers are prompt and courteous, food arrived in a timely manner. The ambience is so/so, rather businesslike. If you stick to the set menu the cost is very reasonable, but stray outside it and it becomes very expensive very quickly.

    The dishes and the drinks are horribly over-priced. You get charged £5 for water, then they include VAT and service charges and don't warn you about it in advance. I had to pay twice what I was planning on oaying because of the THREE charges that were not mentioned beforehand. I would never go back there or recommend it to anyone.

    Have eaten at the Galvin Brasserie before so was looking forward to this as a Valentine's Day dinner, especially when the full a la carte menu was available alongside the Valentine's Day set menu. Unfortunately this experience wasn't anywhere near as good as previous visits.

    We had three courses and all were very good, though one complaint is paying £2.50 for pepper sauce and getting about a tablespoons worth in a small jug - it did feel unnecessarily mean.

    The big downside was the service - unfortunately it was very poor and put a dampener on the whole experience. After ordering, we had to chase our wine order after it still hadn't arrived halfway through eating our starters. The aforementioned sauce was missing from our main course and after asking, it was clear it had been missed completely from our order.

    We sat for about 10 minutes after dessert had been cleared trying to catch a staff member to ask for the bill. After several more minutes we realised that they'd forgotten about it and ended up just walking up to the counter to pay.

    It turned out that there were apparently staffing issues that night, which explains the issues, though doesn't necessarily excuse them.

    If this was my first experience of Galvin Brasserie, I probably wouldn't go back, Given previous visits however I'm hoping it was an off-night and that it will be better next time, but this was a disappointment.

    We have dined at Galvin Brasserie on several occasions and have never been disappointed. Service is excellent - attentive witout being intrusive, welcoming and friendly. Nobody could fail to find something that appealed from the interesting menu - both the a la carte and the seasonal prix fixe made choice difficult. Our table of five were all delighted with their lunch, including our 7 year old granddaughter. The children's menu had interesting choices and the bag of colouring and puzzle books included was a real bonus. The wine was rather expensive for a Picpoul, but nevertheless enjoyable. The Brasserie, which has a seperate entrance to the hotel, reminds one of restaurants in Paris but less cramped!
