Our third visit. Consistently excellent. Ambience, service and food all outstanding. Very good value for money. It is a bit out of the way but well worth a detour.

Set in the charming village of Fressingfield in Suffolk, The Fox & Goose restaurant showcases traditional-meets-modern cuisine. This 2 AA Rosette-holding restaurant is featured in both the Michelin and Harden's food guides.

Starters on the Fox & Goose menu might include smoked duck breast with pickled winter vegetables, whilst the wild sea bass with scallop mousse with sherry caramel and Parmesan crumble is a must-try main course.

A mouth-watering array of desserts follow, among which the chocolate and peanut butter mousse with popcorn, salted caramel and caramelised white chocolate sorbet is a favourite. This Grade II-listed setting also features an impressive al fresco area, shaded by the neighbouring greenery.

Featuring a tasting menu and a prized Sunday lunch offering, The Fox & Goose is a diverse dining spot. Bosting many original features, this former guildhall has stood on the site since 1509.

Absolutely delicious food! Wanted to try everything. My husband had fillet stake and that was melt in your mouth! Will go back again so we can try other dishes! Very friend staff as well.

Fabulous 3 course lunch - inventive menu and completely delicious.

Hadn't been here before but was given a voucher for Christmas. Had the 3 course Christmas lunch. Wasn't expecting to have that as an option, so that was nice and as the turkey was free range, was able to have it for a change! All 3 courses were exceptional. Not the type of food we usually have but we loved it and as it is such good value for the quality, we will definitely be back. The restaurant is beautiful but nothing is pretentious, so we felt very comfortable and the waiting staff were excellent. The desserts are so beautiful they are a delicious work of art. Very, very good!

Expecting our customary Christmas arrangements - drinks and complimentary nibbles in the cosy lounge upstairs, followed by the modest but agreeable drama of being led into the restaurant for our meal, all of which has led us to increase the size of our party every year, we were stunned to find it all closed and we were seated downstairs, where we normally lunch at lower prices.

An open welcoming fire heated two us at the end of the table far too enthusiastically, and was unattended so after a while the room became cold.
We had good food and charming attention although slow, but which deserved and got a decent tip.

It is usual to respond to these sort of comments with the suggestion that all should have been brought to the attention of the management at the time: well, it was obviously impossible to open up and warm all of the usual facilities upstairs after our arrival, and our disappointment was apparent to all. One point brought up by one of our party, that an item in a dish was far too salty and suggesting that the chef taste it, brought no response from the kitchen whatsoever.

My wife has written her report:
Yesterday evening we had booked a table for nine in the upstairs Restaurant. We arrived to find a long canteen style table with two levels on the ground floor.
Also two other diners. It was obvious that we would spoil their evening. Nine people however restrained would not be good for them. Moreover they only had a black window to look at. Later they expressed displeasure, and we could only sympathise.

We looked forward to two of our guests experiencing fine dining in Suffolk. One of our guests is a Pastry Chef in one of Norwich's established Restaurants.
I can see that closing your upstairs dining room was more convenient for you. However I think you could have telephoned us to explain your decision.

Food was excellent, well cooked and of a very high standard as usual. However, one of our party found a sharp piece of plastic in his meal which we gave to the waitress, who said she would tell the chef. We heard nothing at all, not even an apology, during the rest of our evening. We understand that just before Xmas the staff are busy but we were left somewhat shocked at the lack of any acknowledgement.
