service good, but took a long to place order, took a long time to request bill, no one to get coat after departure had to ask anoter employee who was serving someone else to get coats - it looked like a slight shortage of staff!! Food good not enough hot water for two tea pots only one pot of hot water, to get more it took time.. The date of this experience was 7.11.11 St. James Rest., at 2.30pm for two adults. the atmosphere was excellent and basically enjoyed it.

Wonderful afternoon tea. The sandwiches were good and the plate was refilled as soon as it was empty. Good scones and arty looking cakes. A wide choice of teas. Nice piano music was played and the atmosphere Nice and relaxed.

We felt we should have been offered fresh pots of tea at the half-way stage.

A friend treated me to one of your special lunches which, I assume, are designed to showcase what you offer. The ambience was certainly lovely as usual. However, overall the food was poor. Bread rolls tough and not risen; souffle starter good; half my salmon undercooked; lamb had little flavour and could have been beef with too much meat on the plate; bread pudding also soggy and undercooked and the sauce sickly sweet. To top it all the coffee had little flavour and could have been instant in a pot. Maybe last Friday was a bad day but you did not do yourselves justice. The chat in the powder room indicated that we were not alone in being unimpressed.

I booked the afternoon tea as a birthday treat for my daughter who is 22yrs. The staff were very attentive & very informative about the food on offer, types of tea etc. There was a serene atmosphere and we both felt very relaxed. The piano player in the background was excellent. We had a wonderful time. Thank you.
