A modern British restaurant and bar just outside of St Helier, Five Oaks Eating House offers trusty homely food, alongside world wines and local beers. A covered al fresco area provides an outdoor alternative to the restaurant’s colourful and modern interior.

The Five Oaks menu offers hearty pub cuisine, taking pride in fresh seafood and mussel dishes, which are accompanied by a specially-selected wine recommendation. British classics include a braised beef steak and mushroom pie in ale gravy, whilst traditionally chargrilled Portuguese ‘espetada’ skewers feature the mouth-watering surf and turf option of prime rib-eye steak chunks, tiger prawns and scallops wrapped in bacon, all flavoured with garlic butter.

Locally-brewed cask ale and an extensive selection of wines can be enjoyed at Five Oak's lengthy wooden bar, or under the cover of umbrellas outside the colourful green and cream exterior of the Five Oaks restaurant in St Helier.

Five Oaks Eating House provides free Wi-Fi to guests and runs frequent karaoke nights. In St Saviour, it is just a few minutes’ drive from the centre of St Helier.

Firstly, a good sized car park at The Five Oaks, so parking no problem. Attentive service, on arrival and throughout. Good sized portions for starters and main courses (Gammon, Eggs & Chips was huge !) and all well prepared and nicely presented. Our table was in the centre of the room rather than against a wall, which would generally be fine, except on this occasion, it appeared to be a bit closer to one side, which meant it was difficult for the serving staff to avoid brushing against my chair on a regular basis as the place was quite busy, as you would expect on a Friday evening. That said, something that could be easily rectified for the benefit of all concerned and this did not really detract from what was, all in all, a very enjoyable meal and an experience that I would recommend. Well done to all at the FOEH !

Just one observation though, which in fairness occurs in many eateries and is probably not really an issue for many, but continues to be something of an irritation to someone who knows and appreciates their food. The 'pies' on offer are not pies at all. They are small casseroles (i.e., pie filling in a dish), with a puff pastry lid. A pie has a full pastry case and can be picked up and eaten in its entirety. The casserole presentation always puts me off ordering such dishes where I otherwise would consider it.

I booked online, but when I got there they did not have my reservation, that has happened twice now with online booking. The waiter cleared our plates while one of us was still eating the chips
