Booked for lunch before going to the rugby. Superb grey mullet presented with class. We were made to feel very welcome and I've recommended a visit to a number of friends & family. Very impressed.

Using fish caught off British waters, Fish at 85 in Cardiff serves fresh produce, caught daily, and prepared to each diner’s preference. On the site of a working fishmongers, the restaurant expert knowledge goes into every meal.

Adapting to the availability of produce, the Fish at 85 menu showcases fresh, carefully sourced ingredients. Matching fresh fish with exciting flavours, expect the likes of scallops with asparagus and dry sherry, monkfish with green chili and spinach, or build your own dish by choosing the fish, cooking method, accompaniments and sauce. The classics aren’t neglected however, with roast cod and potatoes served with the added panache you’d expect from an expert fishmongers.

Rich desserts complete the menu, with a lemon posset and a hot plum pudding with custard amongst the indulgent options. Simple but charming, wooden-panelled walls and black tiled flooring lend the restaurant a rustic yet contemporary feel.

    Food was great, but no bread for starters ?
    Service was not so, waiter was polite but paying top end prices would expect service to be a lot more attentative taking away empty bottles off small table, ask us how meal is half way through should not have to ask for finger bowl when having the tiger prawns shell bowl for prawns never turned up when asked for example

    Fish85 is an amazing restaurant with fabulous food and very reasonable prices.

    2 people we has prawns and mussels to start and then mussels and mullet mains with rose wine. All really delicious. We did want a bottle of the rose but had run out so had glasses instead. No puddings too full. Loved the candles but could be more Scandinavia and go for more candles and lower light levels. Waiters very nice but could do with slightly more training. But overall great night.

    Food was very good shame about the smell, decor and cleanliness. Restaurant style food and prices in a café. Web site needs to be changed as very misleading mentions choosing your own fish with advice from fishmonger as to cooking it were not offered this facility.

    Went for lunch on a Rugby International day. Surprised that it was so quiet, but maybe it filled up a little later. Ahead of time, but welcomed and served promptly. Delicious starters of sprats and soft shell crabs - very spicy! We both chose the brill for our main course and it was an excellent choice. Filling, tasty and well presented. No room for dessert the only problem. The bill was quite reasonable for the quality of food provided. As this is also a fishmonger's shop, there is a waft of slightly 'off' smells from time to time - but that was to be expected. The premises were not that warm - which was not helped by customers buying fish leaving the door open as they left. Toilets were upstairs, so clients with mobility problems should be aware of this.

    I have tried to book into the restaurant on a number of occasions and its always been full, which is always encouraging. The reviews I have received have all been great and I had high expectations. The evening met and exceeded these. The atmosphere and staff were all great, the food was exceptional quality and unlike some places it also supplied sensible sized portions. The wine list was interesting avoiding the more standard brands. I have recommended the place to a number of people and have booked again for Christmas for the family. I gave it 5* overall and would have given 5* for every section. The only slight elements, as these are specified, that I found were the location as it is a little out of town and the parking was a bit tricky in the area. The other was that the restaurant was not particularly warm. It was not in any way chilly and considering the Fishmongers/Restaurant style it would inevitably not be too warm, and the night I went it was very cold out so I am being very pernickety on this.
    I booked up again within 24h and have recommended to others which indicates my opinion. It was fantastic.

    Great food, excellent portion sizes, fish can be expensive and you normally get a really mean portion - not here though!
    Soft shell crab, scallops, mussels, ham terine were enjoyed as starters. Great pan fried sea bass, fabulous fish and chips, excellent sea bream.
