Intimate cheery place with exceptionally delicious food! Our waiter was very kind and gracious and when asked about his favorite dishes, his Rex's were spot-on. Menu changes with the day's catch so about 6 starters & 6 mains. Excellent desserts too-don't miss the lemon posset.

Disappointed: too much pepper, capers on the fish. It spoiled all the flavor. Molds too cooked, no container large enough for waste. Good service. Entry of scallops excellent, perfect cooking. Excessive price in relation to the quality of the food.

The food was superb, the scallops to start were cooked to perfection, the lemon sole was just amazing and the pan fried seabass with sauce vierge was a taste sensation. A fantastic selection of fish and sauces. If you have not been before you must give it a try. The staff were lovely and the service was spot on.

The restaurant is situated in the lively part of Pontcanna which makes it in general a bit different experience for tourists like us (we weren't supposed to see Pontcanna at all and that would have been a pity). Fish at 85 is positioned quite expectedly as a seafood restaurant and God does their chef know what to do with prawns, scallops, lemon sole and mackerel! This was not worse than cuisine in some posh restaurants in world capital cities but for a reasonable (if not to say ridiculously small) price. The restaurant is small and very smartly decorated with just a little bit of sea-themed items. We were also very impressed by the toilet - clean, stylish and very spacious :)
Will definitely try this place again should I ever be in Cardiff.

Went for a dinner for my husband's birthday. The place had very nice and cosy atmosphere and the staff was helpful. The meals were really delicious. It is not cheap but you get a fresh fish prepared perfectly. A heaven for a fish lover!

We visited for lunch on 7th April and were greeted and seated promptly. We were the only customers in the restaurant so there wasn't much atmosphere but that's not the fault of the restaurant and we were happy in each other's company. The atmosphere improved as other diners arrived. The best features of the restaurant are the decor, music, service by Liam, fish counter, starters and main courses. 2 of us had tiger prawns, watercress and a chilli and garlic sauce and mayo followed by pan fried sea bass fillets, crushed potatoes, samphire and sauce vierge, 1 of us had asparagus, duck egg and brown shrimps followed by baked cod, creamed leeks and potato crochets. All were excellent, the stand out dish was the sea bass. We had an americano and 2 lattes which were very good. We all had the vanilla cheese cake with pistachio ice cream. The ice cream was fine but we all felt that the cheese cake was bland - we couldn't taste much vanilla and it would be improved if fresh vanilla pods were added to it. To be honest it tasted like the kind of cheese cake that you could buy quite cheaply in a supermarket. I would have mentioned this at the time but my husband got the bill whilst I was using the loo and we had had an excellent experience until we tasted the cheesecake and being my sons birthday (we did not tell the restaurant this) I felt it wasn't appropriate to mention it but based on the cheese cake we would probably skip dessert when we visit next time. So in summary amazing (I don't use this term lightly) savoury food and very average dessert but the overall experience was 4 star and could easily be risen to 5 star.

Great food but front of house under pressure and lacking the little touches like bread with meal and a wine cooler for rose' . Also please clean your windows...

Arrived for a lunch sitting, 1230pm table. Had a 3 course lunch, scallops to start, lemon sole for man and rasberries and uce cream. Wat can i say, beautiful food, Very reasonably priced. Very friendly waiter.
Restaurant is small, it adds to its charm. An intimate setting. I have and i would continue to recommend this place to family. Friends and collleagues. And i would like to return very soon to try some other amazing plates of food on the menu.

More casual dining than we thought, but enjoyed decor and relaxed atmosphere. Most dishes we enjoyed, especially tiger prawns , scallops and tuna loin, but mussels were tired and some dishes greasy. Reasonably priced meal and wine.
