With roaring open fires and a cosy feel, The Duke of Wellington is a popular member of the fleet of Old English Inn pubs. Serving in classic British dishes, there is also al fresco seating, offering outdoor dining during warmer weather.
Specialising in trusty, home-cooked British recipes, The Duke of Wellington menu is made up of time-honoured classics and inventive chef’s specials. The signature beef & ale pie is a creation from much-loved celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, while favourite world flavours include sizzling steak fajitas, or aubergine and roast beetroot curry. Gourmet sandwiches and jacket potatoes are served throughout the day, and guests can round things off with an indulgent crumble, cheesecake or sundae.
The drinks list at The Duke of Wellington pub features carefully-chosen beers and international wines, and a lengthy list of soft drinks. Younger diners are not forgotten, with a varied menu for both lunch and dinner, and a mini roast served on Sundays.
A great example of British pub tradition, The Duke of Wellington in Chelmsford sits just off the A12, and only a 9-minute walk to Hatfield Peverel Rail Station.

The food service was once again awful. We waited over 1hr for our main course. A Sunday roast!
A party of 12 near us left after waiting 45mins for a starter, and then a further 1hr+ for the main.
When the food did eventually arrive, it was very average.
I don't know whether these problems were down to the lack of staff as no explanation was given. However, it is then second time we have encountered this extended wait. I will definitely be avoiding in future.

When we eventually got served one person serving at bar but 3 staff & manager standing talking. The young girl Emma who attended our table was lovely great service from her. But when it came to deserts we waited 25 minutes we had to go to bar to chase & manager said it had been forgotten. But the food was fantastic they just need to get the service right especially the manager. It was not busy so I don't understand. IPA & ginger beer was not available.

The food was lovely but the service was very slow and it took a long time for the food to arrive, In fairness they were very busy, but the long wait spoilt our overall experience.

We went for a family Sunday lunch. The food was ok when it eventually arrived, but due to staff shortage in the kitchen we had to wait an hour for it. The staff weren't particularly helpful and there was a mix up with child's menu that was ordered and they didn't make it clear the dessert needed to be ordered at the beginning (we've not had this issue when we've been before) and then they tried to charge us for it when we requested to take it home as we didn't want to wait any longer in the pub with a restless toddler.

Food was very good. There were six in our party and we all had a different dish, and all enjoyed the same. We had an enjoyable evening. Thank you.

Not great service or food. Very dissapointed when my dish came up it was without the sides that it stated on the menu. You cant replace onion rings and coleslaw with 1 mushroom? And when i asked i got told coleslaw isn't nice any way!! Would not recommend, I really dissapointed!!

Were really disappointed. Table very sticky. Said there would be half an hour wait for food. When it came Onion rings were so overlooked you had a job yo cut them. Flowerpot desert........well the only way I could describe it was crushed up branflakes. Was suppose to be served with clotted cream. ...where that was I do not know, mixed in with small amount of ice cream that I had. We had gone for the meal with two friends who we were hoping to have a nice meal and a catchup. Alas, 8-0clock music stArted blaring out. We asked if they could turn it down, and they said no it was party night, which we had not been aware of.
Won't be returning.
PS the manager did give us 10% off our bill because of the noise.
