We went for Afternoon Tea at the Dog and Doublet at Sandon. Excellent value for money. Interesting sandwiches, scrumptious scones, lovely cakes. Pleasant ambience and good service. Would recommend it.

In the picture-perfect village of Sandon, Dog & Doublet is an Arts-and-Crafts-period gastro inn serving gourmet twists on well-loved British comfort food using seasonal, local produce. With a sprawling patio for al fresco dining in the summer months, the restaurant enjoys beautiful views of the Staffordshire countryside.

Celebrating a refined take on traditional cuisine, the Dog & Doublet menu includes highlights such as venison & redcurrant sausages, creamed potatoes, red wine & shallot gravy, penne with chicken, pine nut & basil puree, semi-dried tomatoes & Grana Padano, and fish pie with cheddar & spring onion mash with winter cabbage.

The sophisticated dining room & chilled lounge, complete with a crackling wood burner, rustic wooden furniture & luxuriously upholstered chairs offsetting the exposed red-brick walls provide the warm ambience of a traditional village inn. Enjoy a treat off the Dog & Doublet dessert menu, which features milk-chocolate & honeycomb truffle torte with chocolate sauce & honeycomb ice cream.

Dog & Doublet in Stafford is a 10-minute drive from Stone Rail Station. The inn is easily accessed from the A51 & M6.

Service was very good. However the sandwiches in our afternoon tea were a bit too mustardy and not to our taste but was very good.

Excellent service. The food was great and a high standard. Will definitely be visiting again. The duck and the pork belly were beautiful.

We have now dined at the Dog & Doublet on several occasions and the experience has never been quite right.
We booked a romantic dinner for two for Boxing Day evening which turned out to be anything but romantic.
First of all let me start by saying that the food was fantastic as usual. We cannot fault the kitchen for the marvellous tasty dishes they produce. Unfortunately the atmosphere and the service just don't ever seem to complete what has the potential to be a lovely dining experience.
Yesterday, we arrived at 7.30pm where our lovely waitress showed us to our table. From then on it was like we were on the clock or so it seemed with each course arriving at the table like it was on a conveyer belt. As soon as we had finished one course the next one arrived. Even when we asked for the dessert to be held for 15 minutes it arrived like clockwork on the table. We felt like we were rushed through our dinner to the point that we couldn't enjoy or savour the delicious food which had been presented. To finish the night off and really kill the atmosphere the waitresses decided to start mopping the floor to the adjacent section of the restaurant which they had obviously already closed. The strong smell of disinfectant did nothing to improve the feeling that they wanted us out of there as quickly as possible and so we finally took the hint, paid our bill and left. We did mention all of this when paying the bill and were advised that the Manager would be informed. I'm afraid to say that after yet another service issue at this restaurant we won't be in a hurry to go back. It's a real shame because if they could get the quality of service to match the food this would be a great restaurant and fantastic value for money.

Lovely setting very homely if a little tightly packed great choice on the menu staff could be a little more interactive

Staff made us feel very welcome & really looked after us. One of our party was celebrating a birthday & they made a special effort for her at dessert; which was most appreciated.
