A very warm welcome from a genial host who had even lit the woodburner for us. The afternoon tea was superb and plentiful. A second pot of fresh tea was provided without being asked for and showed the host's attention to little details that made the whole experience so enjoyable. We'd like to stay here next time we're in the area.

Cross Lane House is a small hotel situated near Porlock in Somerset surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to the Bristol Channel. This historic house boasts a wood panel dating back to the 14th century. Although we haven't stayed at the hotel we have visited three times for afternoon tea so, it goes without saying, that we would recommend. Afternoon tea is served in a small intimate lounge/bar on a low coffee table with crisp white linen and relaxing classical music playing softly in the background. You have a choice of teas including tea grown in Cornwall. A selection of finger sandwiches, dainty pastries and cakes and, if you have room, scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam, all served on a silver cake stand. Tea pots are replaced during your indulgence and you even have a tea timer in order that your tea stands to the strength of your liking. Cross Lane has a wonderful ambiance with an added twist of antique items, packets of tea and toiletries to purchase for a gift or to treat yourself. Overall, it's a great experience so, go ahead and spoil yourself.

Beautiful setting, lovely presentation, my only criticism was for myself the scones were very hard and not great, my husband felt awkward sat there with people tapping on a computer behind him and with it being so quiet a little uncomfortable to chat about things. But on the whole i would recommend it.
